I'm sure lots of folks have seen the individual saddle bridges on ebay. I've got a couple projects floating around where I'm bumping my head against either limits of availability or cheap availability.
1) I'm looking for a super tightly spaced bridge for a uke bass. Big strings (0.125 to 0.20") (as tight as possibly, probably same as below)
2) I have a 25.5" scale bass set up for roundwounds/mag pickup I've thought about converting to a 5-string u-bass. (Not much point in a 5-string that short with steel - but it's workable for a u-bass). (Kinda needs to be about 14.25mm or less)
3) I also have a 4 string P-bass that I'd like a tighter but normalish bridge for - like 16-17mm.
Has anyone actually touched / poked / prodded the ebay individual saddle bridges? Taken one apart? I can't figure out from the pics how the saddles slide / lock. Most seem to be 15mm wide. Trying to figure out if there's a way I can either modify the housing (Grind off one wall?) or take the saddles out and put them in something shop built.
Anyone have their own up close pictures? Modify one yourself?
