Increasing tone pot sensitivity

I dont know how but first attempt at wiring worked (mahog tele, wenge neck,P-rail neck position,SSL6-mid,quarter pound for tele bridge). I used 500K pots for both volume and tone control and 0.022 cap.Guitar sounds great but tone control seems to be almost all or nothing. Actually it  rolls off to about 6 o'clock and nothing further. Should I change tone pot to 250K for more finer control or try different capacitor first.thanks

500K and .022 are good values for high cuts on guitars. Sounds like it may be an audio taper vs. linear taper pot. With volume controls, you want an audio taper because of the way the human ear responds to sound pressure levels. With the tone control, SPL isn't an issue. It's part of low-pass filter that doesn't (or shouldn't) affect output level. So, you want it to be linear to have an even effect over its range.

No problem. Actually, I always use audio taper pots on my tone controls simply so I don't have to stock two different style pots. I use the tone control so rarely, I'm not sure why I even install them in the first place. I've already taken to only installing one on the last year's worth of Strat builds. Probably on the next build I won't even use one. I got tone controls up the ying-yang everywhere else so I don't need to clutter up my fiddle.
