Fresh out the mailbox after a 3 month wait; New body from Warmoth!

One piece Mahogany body
Inca Silver top, natural back, black binding.
Routed for P90s and a Hipshot hardtail bridge.

This build is inspired by the pop-punk producer Jerry Finn's Fender Tele Jrs that he collected and used in the studio until his passing. (Though those were set neck).

For a a painted body with binding Warmoth quotes 17-18 weeks. This shipped 12 weeks to the day! Thank you Warmoth, it's stunning. Lots of fun figuring in the mahogany that really explodes in the light.

The neck is from Musikraft. Mahogany/Indian Rosewood. '69 U Custom Shop profile. Jumbo stainless frets. They fit great and even match visually pretty closely aside from the gloss v matte finishes. I can't wait to start working on this.

Visually, I took inspiration from one of Matt Bellamys Mansons that he only used from 2006 to 2007 before it was accidentally destroyed on stage 😂.

Stay tuned for updates!

First night.
Got the pickup screws drilled out. Control plate installed, as well as the output jack. So far so good.

Just admiring the one piece mahogany here. Don't mind me!

Next will likely be to hammer in the ferrules (tips?) and get the tuners installed on the neck. After that it's just strap buttons and electronics.

I was also admiring the one piece mahogany! The body I am waiting for has the same, also finished clear, and I can only hope mine is as gorgeous as yours!

My advice for ferrules is to leave the hammer in the toolbox and take out the sandpaper, I would not use force

Edit: you posted yesterday and I doubt you were waiting on my advice, how did it go?

It went well-ish.

I opted for the soldering iron technique, and they went in pretty easy. But if you get super up close you can see where the finish melted and blistered a little... Oh well. My first tele.

Here she's is, all bolted together, wired and strung up! I'm very, very happy with how it turned out, although I won't be able to plug it in until tomorrow. The one piece body is very resonant and the satin mahogany neck feels fast and full.

A couple things right off the bat:

1) I immediately ordered a replacement Hipshot hardtail in the .175 height. I don't understand why Warmoth sells the .125 version but with the saddles maxed out I'm barely escaping fret buzz as is. So that will be changed shortly.

2) This is my first time building a telecaster and I learned a ton, especially regarding installing the control plate and output jack. Highly recommend having all controls installed before drilling mounting holes for those so you know there's room. I half-assed the control plate and now there's an extra set of holes underneath. But you will never see those thankfully.

3) This needs a setup badly. There's a high fret at the 15th (Musikraft neck) so the 14th are dead notes on the ebg strings. The frets also feel quite rough but I'll hit those with some steel wool and Dremel when swapping the bridge soon.

I'll film a demo of everything soon!

I'm not sure what to think about that. I have a Warmoth Tele body with the thin Hipshot bridge. I didn't need to raise the saddles to any kind of crazy height. I have also seen photos of Warmoth Teles with three saddle bridges where people had them raised to heights I have not needed with a standard issue Tele bridge. Are you sure the neck depth at the pocket is the same as Warmoth specs?

Was there any finish accumulated in the neck pocket? Even a small amount in the back of the pocket could act like a shim and throw off the neck geometry.

That's a fair point! I really feel like for the most part the neck pocket was clean. Warmoth does a great job of that. It looks like there's a tiny bit of clear on the edges but nothing substantial like in pickup cavities.

Musikrafts heels are 25 mm deep, and Warmoths neck pockets are 16 mm deep. I'm not sure how deep Warmoths necks are but if they different that would definitely account for some extra height.
