This morning, I discovered that the website for our local ABATE Chapter had been hacked....

By Islamic radicals, purporting to support Palestine causes!~  Total baloney, we had to scurry for an hour with Network Solutions and two different webmasters to get it corrected.  Took about two hours to correct after all the access was restored.

So when you think its bad here...its bad and worse in other places too.

Turns out - we think - a breach at Network Solutions

All I know is the verbage from the Chapter President would have been enough to scare away anyone.... including RPG toting guerrillas.  Not amused is the understatement.  Plus we had to check all the other Chapter's web pages to make sure it wasn't a problem from the head webmaster (ie, a breech at his level).  I dont think it was.  But, scary stuff for a short while there.

Nobody is up right now... except me and the hackers, and I dont have the security privs to fix it.  @@#$@#$ I'd have FIXED it for good if they wanted it fixed.  Harumph....

EDIT NOTE - Grrrr pox upon myself, and my apologies to all.  I totally wasn't thinking.  That link, if you ran the dedicated plug in... could have caused problems.  I say could have because I dont know, because I didn't run the plug in.  I knew better than to do that.  But... upon reflection, maybe everybody else isn't as savvy.  I do apologize, no malice was intended to anyone.  I only posted the link out of my own frustration and wanting to share some of what I go thru with y'all.

Just so you know, the ultimate guitar site also has trojans there, so I wouldn't be downloading any tabs from there for a while.

Exactly. My band plays occasionally for functions at their local (St. Lucie County) chapter, and we've been trying to get into their regional hq in Palm Beach.

And I don't really know why I even brought that up, lol.

I dont know them all that well.  They do attend some of our fundraisers (to pay for our lobbyist upstate),

For the record, I've never seen a hint of malware coming in through this website.  Squeaky clean it is.

IIRC, the Simple Machines Forum system is pretty safe, and the spam here is done through a user account, which can not have self-installing software to get into your computer.

The only thing that can come with Simple Machine is the possibility of a web page hack...  its been known to happen.  However, I was on a forum a while ago called TheRangerStation about Ford Ranger trucks, and it got hacked to embed a worm when you logged on.  It was easily fixed.  They didn't use Simple Machine though.
