the idea
the body of a tele, with the look of barn door wood, old, white wash long over do for a new coat, only a bit of it here or there. wood not brown but not grey yet either. and I plan of putting a few stickers on it also.
You know, Street Art.
but I want the wood to look authentic, I want it to look old and neglected even though once done it will have a very nice finish on it.
so, Ideas
do I black stain in the grain, or maybe a brown then sanded out
that old wood look, do we add a touch of gray and where do we get such
then I need a pinch of white that I can water down to nothing and apply in places to look like white wash long ago applied and leaving after to many rain storms.

Any ideas? I have plenty of wood to practice on, but would appreciate the advice so I can learn without some mistakes that will ruin the finish.

Aside from those relicing threads, it sounds like you might want to look into using 'Milk Paint'

Give it a google.

wow, you guys know where to look, thats for sure. I think I will give that milk paint a try

So I have looked at the Milk Paint, looked at that aged piece of wood in the drift wood build thread, and decided that I need to do a light coat of black and sand out for the grain, then a light coat of a light brown to stain the wood up, then a super thin off white milk paint applied over most and sanded then to get some  of the off white in gradually stronger amounts and paint in the areas I want to have look like paint remains but is chipping off. Should look like the effect I am going for.

Over that I will apply the decals/stickers and then build up a fine finish to get the look I want, I actually want the smooth gloss coat over it all. So next question

Do I need to use a grain filler?  I  mean will the top coats smooth everything out or is that to much to ask of a glass finish?

Nix the stickers.... just go with the old barn look.....

Unless you're going to go for an aged looking "hex" sign like they got on barns in the northeast

Kinda touched on this in my "Driftwood" Strat thread but do you have any samples you've practiced on yet?....post some pics when you do!
