Ibanez Bass re-wire

I just bought a used Ibanez EDB-405 5 string ergodyne bass from a friend. The last pot (lowest pot - closest to the floor - if you hold the bass up with the headstock pointing at the sky). has a wire that has become unsoldered. I can absolutely re-solder the pot, but I want to know I'm doing right. The pot has three tabs. The tab onb the left is soldered to a cap which is soldered to the body of the pot and also to one of a pair of wires coming out of a green housing. The second tab has a white wire soldered to it which is the other half of the green housing. The third tab is bare (even of solder, which gives me pause) and I have a loose gray wire. I would think that I would solder the gray wire to the third tab but I don't want to kill anything. What should I do here? What is my next step besides tossing a cowboy hat on and grabbing my soldering iron and going buckwild?

it cant do any damage if you do. just undo it later if needed. that is weird though. it is clearly a tone control with the cap and all but the tone 9 times outta 10 only uses 2 lugs on the pot. a photo of the open control cavity would help. or the model of the bass might give someone a clue or a basis for looking up the answer.
