Can anyone give me some better advice what is soldering gun exactly..

First the device pictured is actually a soldering iron, a soldering gun does the same thing, but has a pistol grip and a trigger and heats up only when you pull the trigger.
But a soldering iron is a heating tool used to melt metallic solder to make electrical connections. You'll need one to wire up your pickups pots and switches if you build a guitar (unless you went with a prewired pickguard or a modular clip system like EMG and a few other manufacturers use)
