I may be a convert

No....not pervert....convert. I built this custom-body tele-type a few months ago because I've been thinking of putting together a Warmoth thing since the seventies. I'm a died-in-the-wool glue-in kind of person. I've owned only Gibsons and Hamers for the past 45 years. well.....I got this tele-type together and played it. I must say I was a little disappointed. I figured it must be that the bolt-ons just really aren't for me. But hey, who doesn't love a fine sounding Strat or Tele, right? So I tweaked the action, changed string gauge, and tried again. Better, but I didn't love it. So I played the Hamer Vanguard (P90) again. Determined to find something to like about my new Warmoth, I put away the other guitars and kept the Warmoth handy there on the stand. I even put together a new(ish) pedal board and tried lots of gizmo's to find out what that guitar was all about. I read on this forum somewhere that this person was waiting for the new guitar to "settle" so to speak, and then it would find it's voice. Then it happened. A fuzz box from Basic Audio opened a door to that guitar and now I can't seem to put it down. That, to me, is what guitar playing is all about. You get music in your head that stays with you. You can't wait to leave work and try to play that thing that's been in your head all day. That Warmoth is now inspiring me like I haven't been in years. It's a real good thing. I just had to tell somebody.

Cool story. It's good that you found what works for you with the Tele. Do you have an good pics of it?

That's great to hear, glad you told us about your new found inspiration. Best of luck with your new toy!  :icon_thumright:

Yes, pix please!

Unusual that a "fuzz" pedal would make a guitar fit in place. They're a pretty overpowering effect. But, I suppose it could be like putting a bag over Sarah Jessica Parker's head... :laughing7:

The fuzz kinda made me sit up and take notice. Now even the clean stuff is better. It's like my hands were pissed because I gave them something new. Now it feels good.....anyway, here are a few iPhone pics. Sorry.....the pics are skewed ....let me see if I can fix it.

Why'd that happen? They're "right" in the computer, turned on the forum....

If you're trying to post pictures, you have to either add them as attachments or you can link to them if they're on a publicly-accessible server.

The pics are right in my computer, added as attachments here, they come through sideways. This happened before but I don't remember why.... :icon_scratch:...I' posted a bunch of pics during the build....which came across fine  ..hmmmmm....I'll figger it out....

I think orientation is part of the pic's metadata, stored when the shot is taken since many cameras know which way is up these days, especially on phones. Then when it gets displayed, the program doing the displaying may alter the orientation, although usually it'll ask first. That doesn't alter how the data is stored, though, so when you shift it to someplace else where there's not going to be an orientation preference query possible at display time, it just displays it the way it was stored.

But, I'm no photoshop guy, I'm just guessing based on behaviors I've seen.

And that's another thing I love about guitar. The technology in mine just stays the same......familiar...simple....no BS :tard:

Yeah, camera technology has been moving at a breakneck speed for a while now. My Canon does about eleventy-bajillion things, most of which I have no idea why or how. Fortunately, most of it is automatic and beneficial so it doesn't hurt to just let it go about its business.

Ι believe the glue - screws thing is overrated. I have two Les Pauls, one bolt-on neck the other set neck and they have that big LP tone no other guitar has. People don't want to hear about a bolt-on neck LP but everyone who played mine agrees it's a Les Paul. I can't convince those who pay $200 for period correct pickup rings and write pages about the importance of hide glue but any sane guy who'll play both guitars side by side hears and feels small differences, surely not the screws or the glue.

As far as your guitar...I'm not saying it's not a great guitar but I don't see a tele, even a tele type. For me a Telecaster has a tele body, I find the thickness of the body important, I don't want strat contours. The tele tone is in the bridge pickup. The neck pickup is good when it's clear but you can put any type of pickup in the neck if you have a a nice punchy tele in the bridge. Also, I have used both three and six saddles and both sound like Telecasters when...a bridge tele pickup is there.

Some git-fiddles are just magic. i've had phenom bolt-on, set-neck, and neck-thru guitars over the decades. i've had less-than killer of all of those too. but I always come back to bolt-on.  :glasses9:

I've seen several studies now, all of which were flawed but all of which came to the same conclusion that at least as far as sustain and frequency response were concerned, the worst-to-best neck joints are neck-thru, glue-on, and bolted. The bolt-on can be taken a step further by installing threaded inserts and machine screws instead of the traditional wood fasteners. It's not dramatic, but it's audible. For playability, the order is reversed, with the Les Paul being the outlier due to its humongous heel.

I'm glad I never succumbed to the snobbery crusades against bolt-on...in fact...if you guys dig, you can use my new phrase "Bolt-Action."

No, my guitar is not set neck, or neck thru, it's BOLT ACTION baby!  :headbang:

Got my new Warmoth strat build back from the shop.
Outstanding job Warmoth crew!  :headbanging:

Just a friendly feedback tip to anyone interested in ordering Full Scallop with Dots on the side. This time around it was SUPER DUPER helpful to have a wood knot or natural circle striping on the fingerboard, whatever it is, it helps navigating the neck much easier. Might be something for the crew to keep in mind when the coin lands on its side, fingerboard WITH DOTS! :icon_thumright:

And to anyone hesitant on trying a raw neck, FEAR NOT!
Just do it!..RAW! (although I cannot vouch for wenge, but its on the list!)

Come on Mr DustyCat, get some pics posted of the thing...

Well, I sent a few into the GOM, but I think the size of my pictures might be too big.

There are a lotta free applications with varying capabilities out there to edit pictures. Far and away the best is GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) - it's nearly as powerful and full-featured as Photoshop, but it's free and there are versions for Windows, OS/X and Linux so you're covered. Install that, and cropping/resizing pics becomes puppy chow.
