FWIW, somethings I film horizontally, when I upload them, it plays them vertically with the image rotated 90 degrees.

That happens because you hit "Record" before the camera settles into the horizontal position. There's a small camera icon in the bottom right corner, if you're on an iPhone, and that icon will be pointing in the direction that the camera is in. But you can't just turn your camera sideways and hit the button, give it a second to adjust itself.
