Legendary blues and rock singer Joe Cocker lost his battle with cancer today and the world lost a beloved musician and friend.

In his own words, Cocker played with "just about everybody." His first single in 1964 was a cover of the Beatles' "I'll Cry Instead" recorded with Jimmy Page on guitar.

But it was his cover of another Beatles' song, "I'll Get By With a Little Help From My Friends," recorded in 1968 and performed at Woodstock in 1969, that he'll be remembered for.

Forty years later, two of the most iconic artists to emerge from Woodstock, Cocker and Carlos Santana, reconnected when the pair covered Jimi Hendrix's "Little Wing."

In a fitting bit of serendipity for the day, the "Little Wing" cover was recorded on Santana's album, Guitar Heaven.

Listen to Cocker's unmistakable vocals on the classic Hendrix tune here...

It's staggering to think too, 70 in 2014, that made him 25 at Woodstock.  Then again, Hendrix was a 26 year old there.  So much for maturing to develope your sound.  If you don't have it by your late teens, you may never.  How old was Clapton in his Cream years?

I digress, didn't mean to make it about others.  We've all seen the Cocker Woodstock stuff and the Belushi SNL bit.  Never realised he was a kid then.

A great voice. But I beg to differ on your title. I like getting old. Because Joe isn't any more.

Drawing breath is a Good Thing. But, it gets increasingly difficult to watch family and friends go tits-up.

Growing old is a bit of a drag.
I don't jump as I high as I used to.
And my fingers don't fret as well.

But it beats not growing old.

RIP Joe you will be remembered.

I don't mind getting old at all.  I have more experience to apply to life.

And I'm a better player and singer than I've ever been.  :headbang:
