Yeah - always been a big fan of blue quilt. There's something about blue guitars...
The plan was to build my ultimate guitar with all the features I like (obviously!):
I never use a trem or whammy, as I hate the way they detune the other notes when you bend a string, or when you give the strings a real heavy bash. Plus I wanted the increased string height off the body you get with an angled neck pocket - I like to dig in under the strings with my fingers sometimes. So a TOM it was. Tone Pros naturally.
Natural masked binding to show off the maple - made to stand out more by the black gloss of the mahogany rear. Contoured neck recess for access.
The neck is a 24.75" Gibson style for lower string tension at pitch, and getting that action down low. Satin clear finish on a standard slim contour on a black TUSQ 11/16's nut. Angled back headstock for no string trees. The peghead is a Variax shape - not quite a PRS shape, but nice all the same. Most importantly though, it gives the straightest string pull of the 3 a side options.
BTW - there's another deluxe quilted maple beauty on its was shortly - this time a customised Tele....dyed red on a 1-piece swamp ash body, with a middle PUP too. I love the sound of SD Alnico II Pro Tele pickups, so was gonna do a Strat/Tele PUP selection mix: standard tele, plus positions 2 & 4 of a strat. Will keep you all posted...
