Just spent the last 29 hours writing an essay on bebop, done a musical analysis including a transcription and recorded 4 Beatles covers in 29 hours straight, God knows where I found the strength but it's done! College is pretty much finished for this year :) man, what a relief!

The only way you could spend 29 hours writting on ONE subject is if you spent the first 28 hours teaching yourself what you shoulda been payen attention to in class all along. Kids these days OMG,
well i guess that was the case back in my day too, congrats.

And what is bebop?

Peter, now you have to educate us about everything you have learned.

You will be receiving a grade for it, too.

Also, there will be a time limit. You have one hour.

Now that you are an expert on Bebop maybe you could dispell one rumour about it?

Is it true or not that the person who coined that genre of Jazz had a bad stutter and when asked what the hell that music was, stuttered and said "b-Bop" and the journo took that as "Bebop" and the rest is history....  :headbang1:

haha, nah I'm afraid I have not come across anything supporting that idea, from what I've read the term was taken from scat singing, and that the term in scat was an idea of black musicians being beaten for being black, sort of mimicking the sound of being hit. The musicians at the time did not call their music anything, they didn't attempt to create a new genre they just done what they did and others labelled it as such. As for the first instances of when it was used, I have no idea my studies didn't make it entirely relevent.

Joey, no...

Just no.  :binkybaby:

Ah, the confusion:

The University of California, Berkeley is a public university in, shockingly, Berkeley (across the bay from San Francisco), California, and is operated, shockingly, by the State of California.  It's one of the top public research universities on the planet, and is also my alma mater</brag>  :icon_biggrin:.  It has excellent music programs, but is frequently confused among guitar players with Berklee College of Music, a likewise excellent private institution in Boston that specializes in ONLY music-related curricula, and does it three thousand miles from Berkeley, California.

I know I'm late to the thread, but if you're talking about bebop, I bumped into this, and I think this may help a little on the subject, as well as blow your mind out if you are any good at reading sheet music:
