Does anyone make a humless P90 that sounds authentic?

They can do it with strats, so why not P90s?

The Dimarzio Area single coils are totally humless & sounds about as good as a vintage single coil can.

You're mistake is in the "they can do that with Strats" part.

I say, no they can't.  A really good large number of folks tend to agree with that as well.

I do know the P100 from Gibson is totally different from a P90.  Then again, P90's are different from each other.

THERE IS NO ONE SINGLE P90 TONE, just as there is no single HB tone.  Even the Gibson P90, which has officially been offered one way - as the P90, take it or leave it - has run hot and cold over the years, on purpose, to suit the models Gibson was producing at any one given time.

For sure, a 7k P90 and a 14k P90, both original from Gibby, sound totally different.

Fralin and kinman both make noiseless P90s - or rather, stacked buckers in a P90 housing voiced to sound like a nice P90. Never tried either one, but it is tempting as P90s can be real noisy. I think some forum member just put together a carved top tele with the kinmans.

You should definitely try the Dimarzio Area 61 & 67s PUs before making up your mind. I A/B them my strat w/ the Areas with my regular strat ( both are made of identical woods & hardware) & they sound identical except for the hum.

I just read that Gibson also made a noiseless P-90 as well, & Dimarzio makes the bluesbucker that looks like a regular humbucker but is supposed to sound like a P-90, but I've never heard either.

i have this in the neck of my strat. Dimarzio Virtual P-90. absolutely love it. has the kick of a p90. sounds great clean and distorted. it might not be what a p90 purist would want, but i think it sounds pretty damn close and pretty damn good. can also be split to be just closer to a true p90.

Duncan also makes a stacked P90 style humbucker. I've personally tried these, as well as several of the DiMarzio P90 sized humbers including the one above. None of them sounded like the ideal, real thing P90, they just fit the hole.

I like Kinmans strat & tele pickups. I'm sure he has done a great job with P-90's.

I recently built a Tele with Kinman P90Hx and I cannot say anything but good things about them.  The tone is pure P90s but without the hum.  I have been using P90 pickups for quite sometime now and love the tone especially from made by Fralin and Vintage Vibe but the trouble is I always have to stand at a "sweet spot" to keep hum at bay.  Now with the Kinmans, I can stand anywhere, even in front of the amp, and not have to worry about hum.  The small fortune I paid for them is well worth it.
