Hum question

I just finished wiring up my telecaster and have a hum issue.  I am not sure if it is a grounding issue or if perhaps my guitar cable has bit it.  Here is the issue.  I plug the guitar in and no hum.  I touch any of the metal bits, control knobs or the bridge and it hums.  I tested all of the solder joints with an OHM meter and they all look fine.  If I touch the exterior metal part of my guitar cables plug the hum stops no matter what else I touch.  Any ideas?

It's a grounding issue. Does the guitar sound quiet? If so you've probably got the wires to the jack the wrong way round.

Electric guitars are rather simple creatures electrically. Its a good place to start anyway, but very likely 100% of all WTH type electrical problems in a guitar are grounding issues.

Just plugged in the guitar is quiet.  I will check and see if I switched the ground on the jack.  It is the only thing I didn't check since I didn't remove the jack ans you can't see into there.

??You should.  :toothy12:

Thats how the rest of us feel whenever we get bit by grounding issues.

Well I feel stupid.  I reversed the hot and ground in the jack.
