okay... so this is a totally random question.
I've been wondering bout how people mount their singlecoils on a rear routed body. What kind of screws do you use? Do you mount it right in to the body wood?

Yes, directly to the wood. You can order the wood mounting screws with your Warmoth order or find them locally. Pickups generally come with some sort of foam in the packaging (all Rio Grande pickups come with special mounting pad) you line the pickup in the route and drill pilot holes as desired, then place the foam/pad under the pickup and screw them in to the desired height.

Most pickups come with mounting springs for pickguard usage and some have instructions to use those between the pickup and wood instead of using some kind of foam, but I don't like the result, the pickups wind up being "wobbly" in the mount.

As another alternative, you can get SC mounting rings that work in the same manner as HB mounting rings.

If it's a pickup with high "wings" or flanges, the screws that work best are called "precision bass pickup screws" or some variant, available everywhere. They're 1.25" long and a body is 1.75" thick, so you have to be careful... but you knew that. A few times, I've whittled out little riser blocks for each screw and glued them into the cavity when it was appropriate.

There are Fender Strat sized mounting rings available to do exactly what you wanna do.  To me... they give a nice finished look.  You dont have to see the routed area, the wire, the sides of the coil, etc etc.  Just a thought.

In another post for body mount humbuckers, I have suggested using the original pickup screws with the tips sharpened with a grinder drill bit.  You can do this for Strat singlecoils but make sure the screw lengths do not go through the back of the body.  Otherwise, you may have to cut them shorter.

You can also get these from Stewmac : http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Hardware,_parts/Electric_guitar:_Screws_springs/Flametop_Single-coil_Pickup_Mounting_Screws.html

For positioning pickup heights, I usually cut pickup sized rubber shims from old car tyres to prevent wobbling and some cushioning to regulate height as screws are tightened or loosen.

I had to order special straight base plates. then just screwed into the wood using surgical tubing around the screw in place of springs..
worked great.
