How long have you been playing music?

Feel free to elaborate on the instruments you play etc...

I have got the ball rolling with 50 years plus...

Tricky decision between the 30 - 40 years and the hack option, but cut myself a little slack.

13 years, but I started late in life.  One of those things I realized I always wanted to do.  I decided I better do it or just forget about it.  I surprised my wife.  She had no idea I had the interest.  Now three builds later and four guitars in my “collection”, she knows it is a major interest of mine.

With any regularity, started in 1975.
Instruments included all brass except trombone, all woodwind except flute, all orchestral strings, guitar, bass, baritone, mandolin, banjo.

I used to think "when I've been playing for 20 years, THEN I'll have really paid my dues".  Now I'm over double that  :)

... and I still have the same problems when I play (poor meter when soloing)  :(  Oh well - I've got a sh*t hot violinist in the band now for that sort of thing  :headbang:

Let's see, 66 minus 12. No, it's too depressing cause I still can't play that well. So, I build instead.    :turtle:

Since 73, so about ... er ... 47 years.

I know how you feel, somebody done sneaked a bunch of years in there while we weren't looking...... :dontknow:

I started over 50 years ago but didn't do anything for a number of years then started back up. Unlike Pete, though, I am a hack. :laughing11:

Well, there you have the answer. Change your name to Django and change the band's name to "The Quintet of the Hot Club of Moosejaw."

I'm catching up from when I last left off playing guitar when I was a teenager.  @ 19 I went into the USAF and that took me on many journeys, then when I got out I had run to stand still and create a new careeer... 30 yrs later with my daughter in college I can afford to buy the good stuff and started to purchase guitar equipment (recently a Warmoth finally after looking at their ads in the back of magazines for years).  It's amazing how much I remember and how much I have forgotten over the years, but each moment I get to play my guitar(s) is (quoting Frank Costanza) "Serenity Now! Serenity Now!".

Yep, 50 years plus...

Officially I started on flute in the 4th grade, so that woulda been 1968. But my neighbor when I was 5 years old was a professional jazz drummer and he gave me a pair of drumsticks which I apparently took to, so my grandmother bought me a practice pad the next year, and sometime over the next few years I eventually realized I was a drummer. So if that's the start date it's 1966. Didn't really become a serious [sic] drummer until high school, and I pretty much gave up the instrument after college, but it was a nice run for a while there. Flute only lasted 4 years, other than a few recording sessions I did in the late 1970s, and one free-improv gig I did in the early 1990s where I replaced the headpiece of my flute with the neck and mouthpiece from an alto sax and played "flax".

I started playing guitar when I was 11 in 1972, and started playing bass when I was 13 in 1974. Still playing those.
