How can I get the best sustain out of my strat?

The guitar I am speaking of specifically has a mahogany body with quited maple laminate top it will have a Floyd Rose. The neck is Bird's eye maple with a rosewood fingerboard. Any suggestions on increasing sustain?

Turn up your amp until the ketchup in the kitchen turns solid.

Build a time machine that always keeps you about 500 milliseconds in the past after 499 milliseconds, and readjusts an additional 500 milliseconds every 499 milliseconds; that way you'll have infinite sustain! Once you have the prototype working you can readjust to the future to ensure the Mark II version is the same size as an ElectroHarmonix Big Muff and commercially viable.

The wood combination you have is already considered good for sustain. Additional things to consider may be jumbo frets, brass nut, brass block in the Floyd (I know very little about Floyds so this may be nonsense or not an easy option).

Heavier gauge strings?

Active pickups - not my preference, but another possibility.

Work on a good finger vibrato.

Hope some of this helps.

Seriously, get a hardtail and a big thick neck.

More Mass = More Sustain

everything counts (in varying amounts) solid body, thicker neck, heavier strings, heavier tuning machines, bigger frets, etc.

the floyd trems have a reputation for killing sustain (all trems really but floyds especially) so a dense TOM bridge or string through body design would be nice but if the floyd trem is your thing then you can overcome that by overcompensating in the other areas.

Interesting.

Something like this?

How to increase sustain by changing the specs of your guitar:
- heavier body
- fatter/heavier neck
- hardtail bridge

How to increase sustain without changing the specs of your guitar:
- use a compressor
- use a true sustainer (ebow, sustainiac)
- use heavier strings
- back your pickups away from the strings
- HIGH GAIN

Possible ways to increase sustain (I'm not convinced these work):
- stainless saddles/frets?
- heavier trem block?
- Fat Finger-type gadgets?
