Hopping on the roasted bandwagon

I was set on my next guitar, if I were to build one, would be a Tele. So I eyeballed this in the showcase for the last few days and decided to pull the trigger:

Had to jump on that one b/c I knew my next neck would be toasty roasted... and how long would I have to wait for a 1 piece 1 3/4 nut width '59 back to show up in the showcase again if I passed? Ahh the dilemmas.  :icon_biggrin:

I'll be shooting for something along the lines of this:

Only with a Mojotones JW Firebird in the neck and Broadcaster clone at the bridge. At least I am leaning that way. And with Callaham distressed hardware.

So I figure I will slowly collect parts over the year, so that I might have it finished by the time I turn 50 next year. An old-style guitar for an old man. HA...

That IS nice looking neck. I prefer a thinner back, but you got to know what you like, and apparently you do. Don't let too much time get away from you, my Strat was a 60th birthday present to myself, and I finished it just a few weeks before my 61st!

Traditional is good, old style indeed.......

:occasion14:

That is gonna be one fine machine! Beautiful neck, indeed! I actually had that Fender hotrod reissue Tele some time ago... sold it so I could by Warmoth parts!  :laughing7:

But seriously, a great, timeless design to use as your starting point. (-I did love that guitar... almost as much as I love getting boxes with little turtles on them dropped off at my doorstep!) I like the pickup selection you plan to deviate to, -doesn't sound to me like an old man's guitar at all!  :icon_thumright:

Thanks Day-mun... well compared to my other Tele, it *is* an old man's guitar!

Funny you ended up getting rid of what I'm essentially rebuilding with Warmoth parts  :occasion14:

You're going to really like that neck. The finished Tele will be beautiful. Congrats.

Just jumped on one myself...roasted maple tele w/Pau Ferro fingerboard.  Been waiting a year for a screamin' deal that I liked to show up but it never materialized.  Now the wait begins as a chastise myself for not ordering it 5 weeks ago

Oh man... I think I made a mistake!

This neck just feels too damn buttery-slick in my hands. How am I going to have patience... and not order all of my parts NOW?!? My plan of *slowly* building up parts may be foiled!

Neck seems a bit darker than in photos. Should look real nice on a butterscotch blonde body:

Very nice neck. Be sure to post some feedback of your thoughts on the roasted maple phenomenon. I got one soon to go on a 2nd project here. Cagey is working on a guitar with an all Bubinga neck for me in the proverbial there. I gotta get a practice space soon where I can turn stuff up to a proper level and then I'll post any observations I have. Not inclined to incur noise citations where I live. Also, curious as to how you find the roasted maple fretboard to feel on that thing.

Yep... I have followed Cagey's thread and fully plan on implementing that  :icon_biggrin: Thanks, everyone!
