Hi!

Haha, thanks. I've got a bunch of designs I plan on building in the future too. It's justt finding the dough to carry them out.

Have any of you ever used white oak for a body?

I haven't, nor have I seen it. It's a very attractive wood, but also a very heavy one, and the grain is so deep that it would be difficult to get a traditional "guitar" finish on it. I doubt it would impart much, if any, tone to an instrument. I imagine it would be kinda like using Lucite or Lexan, tone-wise. As far as I've seen it go along those lines (with wood, anyway) has been mahogany, at least for the main body/neck. Tops, fretboards and accents, of course, have been made of a wide variety of woods.

Actually, I ran across a Larrivee dreadnought with oak for the back and sides - might have been silver oak, now that I think of it though.  The guitar sounded really good - very well defined lows and adequately loud highs, and of course Larrivee fit'n'finish are generally topnotch.

Never encountered white oak for a sold-body acoustic, though.

Hmm, I must try this then. I've got a boatload of unmilled white oak available to me for free, I just need to get a chainsaw and cut some of it.
