Hey watch lovers! I just got Oriented.

Orient is a Japanese watch manufacturer that flies under the radar in the U.S. market. I just got a great deal on this: it's a self-winding watch with an in-house 21 jewel movement, an attractive and novel "mystery dial' treatment of the hour hand, and sapphire crystal and display back. Size is 42mm. I'm loving it.

I don't know much about watches other than the obviously well known brands. But I like the look of this one mrpinter.  Elegantly black...

Elegant is a good word for it. Nice piece. Although, next time I replace my watch, I'm gonna hunt high and low to find something without a day/date display. Bloody thing is always wrong because I don't want to fiddle with it every month, so it just clutters up the face with lies.

I know what you mean. I had a couple of vintage chronographs that needed to be wound all around the dial each time the date advanced by one day. That took forever to set if it hadn't been worn for a couple of weeks - so I just quit setting it. But this Orient watch has a quickset date feature. You just pull out the crown halfway and with less than a turn of the crown the date advances - so to change it a whole month or so still just takes a few seconds. Having said that, I know a lot of watch-o-philes who prefer a non-date plain dial for aesthetic reasons.

Nice! I've never seen a dial incorporate an indicator hand like that.  It is sort of reminiscent of the whimsical things I've seen Swatch do.

I've had my eye on Orient watches for awhile now.  I'd be interested to hear how you like it going forward after you've lived with it for awhile.  They certainly are a bargain when you see what you get for the money.

Here's an early report: after observing the time keeping for five or six days, checking it against a computerized clock each of those days at the same time: it looks like the watch is accurate to within a couple seconds per day (fast). That is quite good for any mechanical watch, much less an affordably priced one.
