Henry Kaiser......I don't get it...

Henry Kaiser is a scion of the enormously successful Kaiser family of industrialists in the West, with steel, construction, and mining interests.  I believe he sits on the board of Kaiser's charitable foundation, and also is an antarctic marine researcher.

So he's not living in his girlfriend's parents' basement, no.

Ahhhhhh...trust fund baby. Say no more

There's worse things a filthy rich person could do with their time. Certainly his family has made a real contribution to society, so if he's content to play this stuff all day seems fine to me.

He could be doing a lot more horrible evil things with his time, like working at Gibson in the quality control dept. :laughing7:

I dunno, seems he's not interested in appealing to anyone but himself.  Narrows the audience, but it's a kind of integrity.  I can hear where he has really neat ideas, but his execution and tonal choices don't appeal to me much sometimes.  Then again,I like weird shit.  Check out Hans Reichl, for example.

"World's worst guitar player" and similar epithets say more about the person making them than about Kaiser's playing.

There's nothing wrong with being weird & out there. In fact I like weird. However, Henry seems like someone who doesn't even like to play guitar or is interested in getting better as a player.

His technique, feel, note choice is not just him being weird, it's the result of someone who doesn't have the basic rudiments of playing guitar, hence it comes out weird & atonal.

Give a total beginner Henry's gear & I bet he'd sound a lot like Henry.

To each his own, but Henry is kind of a sad joke, imo.

Does he slap babies or act like Yngwie or something? The guy likes playing guitar and chose his parents well.

Put me in the "not interesting, but not offensive either" camp. I think someone's just jealous of his gear. Putting up youtube videos is harmless. If the radio stations were playing him because he'd somehow forced his way onto the airwaves with money, I could see resenting him.

I think everyone is jealous of his gear. He has some of the nicest custom built guitars in the world & amps that would make a grown man cry.

Unfortunately, such tools in the hands of someone who doesn't really seem interested in being a good player, & of course 'good' is always subjective, is rather sad imo.

And yes, I'm jealous of his gear. I don't even have 1 dumble amp & he has multiple ones. Damn you Henry, Damn you to Hades, with Hades in this case being one of his concerts.

How many of us are doing the exact same danged thing, just with smaller numbers. Seriously. I think we estblished about 100 years ago most of the classics are recorded on bog standard instruments by people without a ton of money.

Sure, I'm trying to better my playing, but you may still think I suck. Meanwhile some kid in the third world is hating you because you have hundreds of dollars worth of music gear just because you could afford it, when you're never gonna play out. Same with you hating on his Dumbles.

There's some 20-year-old Temple student that showed up at a local jam wank a few weeks back. He broke a tuner head clean off his Epiphone Strat and the switch was kind of goofy, so I lent him the SRV Zombie guitar. Which I've been chill on lately and am getting rid of.

--I should just swap out the Texas Special Bridge pickup, but not really a Strat guy...I only have two guitars that can easily go to standard tuning for jams so it comes along as a backup--

Anyway the kid just destroyed, on a guitar he'd never touched before, and going into yet another person's rig. I don't throw around compliments loosely but in 25+ years of playing I can count on one hand the times I've seen someone comparable. I considered giving him the guitar outright but couldn't quite bring myself to go that far. He got carded for a drink when I wasn't looking and kicked out before I could find out more about him. I know he goes to Temple and works at some kind camp right now.

But yeah, I'm sitting on a dozen guitars and barely have time for my best two, and have paid more for necks than this young guy's guitar was worth. Hard for me to hate anyone for their gear with someone that talented is playing a POS. I struggled with shit guitars until about that age when I could get something nicer (a MIM Tele, new!).
