B)Have him point out what is broken, so you can have a learning experience

Transmufflers have a nasty habit of leaving for the holidays early, have to git thems replaced.  Federal law ya know... 

If anything, have him show you what went wrong on it.  The tranny can also be rebuilt, the iron is still good.  A coil might be fried, but the iron is fine.  Expensive to rebuild, but there might be a market on eBay...
