help with king v

I've got a js32 king v, and i'm looking to replace the licensed jackson floyd and dye the rosewood fretboard to jet black. I was doing research online, and I've heard that the schaller original floyd that's available here on warmoth is a good fit for the cavity, but I've heard a lot about jt 590 vs jt580 vs jt580lp, and I'm confused now, I know I don't have a jt 590, but I can't tell whether or not I have a jt580(lp) or maybe some other trem model jackson's using right now. Can anyone confirm for me, whether or not it'll be a good fit? and while i'm at it, any advice for dying the fretboard or setting up the floyd? links to a good tutorial for doing either?

Can you post some pics of what you have. If the thing is the same size as an OFR, buying a Schaller branded locking Trem that Warmoth sells is different dimensionally.

For dyeing the fretboard you can use Fibbings Leather dye. Cheaper via Amazon than via StewMac who sell the product for dyeing fretboards.

here's the trem. I've heard of that dye, but I didn't think to look for it on amazon. I've also heard mention of using tung-oil to treat the board before dying. Looking at the neck right now, I've also noticed a nick in the middle of the 20th fret, looks like fret deadening, but could probably be repaired i'm assuming.

I can't see all of the Floyd, but my guess is that it is going to be closer to OFR dimensions. To be sure get hold of an OFR diagram with measurements and then check them against what you have.

Looks like the frets could do with a bit of a level, crown and polish as required to bring it up to par.

For about the same price, go to Harbor Freight, & just get a cheap set of calipers.

I agree. Much more accurate, and can be used for a lot of things. This one...

... can be had for $19.99. Or, you can get the same thing here for a little more that includes a fractional display (ie: 5/64" instead of .0781") as well.

With both, you can check inside diameters, depths, widths, all sorts of stuff. Find out what frets you have installed. What size strings are. Very handy and highly recommended.

I have a pair of digital calipers and use them all the time. At $19.95 you can't afford to not have one.

It seems that the cavity might be a little too big for the original floyd rose, and I've seen in some other forum posts that although the posts for the ofr will fit, the floyd won't cover the entire cavity, and will end up leaving a big gap around the new floyd, any other floyds worth looking into as a replacement for this one?
