Help! Input jack issues

The sad thing, I have no kids.

What, did you slam your own Johnson in a car door?  ???
No, wait, don't answer that!  :icon_jokercolor:  :toothy12:

Johnson's fine.  Just saying there's no reason for a man to know anything about Twilight unless he has a daughter into that crap.  Here I am, no kids and I know all about it because my wife likes the movies and music of person 20 years her junior.
:sad1:

what the hell is Twilight?  Do I want to know?

It's an incredibly bad vampire movie targeted at young girls on their first crush. It's also the butt of many, many jokes, and not in a good way. I haven't seen it, but according to all accounts I should be thankful to have been spared.

Like when Henry Rollins tried to figure out how to get his "hwang" pinched on a toilet seat... :-\

My newly-acquired rear-routed Strat has the exact same issue as the OP's problem! Oh what to do, oh what to do...

Been explain though this thread.

Can dremel or cut a small area out from INSIDE of cavity.
Just take your time !!

I posted some pic's as did others.

Thanks. I did read through the full thread. I guess I was more or less just complaining that this seems to be an issue on rear-routed Strats with 1/2" jacks.

It's never happened to me and I've had a few rear routed strats.

Interesting thou. May-be a late friday arvo drill job  :dontknow:

I have the Switchcraft stereo deep panel jack (http://www.warmoth.com/Deep-Panel-Stereo-Jack-By-Switchcraft-P725C68.aspx) and that one fits fine. The Switchcraft mono deep panel jack looks about the same length too. I suspect the gold non-Switchcraft one (http://www.warmoth.com/Deep-Panel-Stereo-Jack-Gold-P726C68.aspx) is a fair bit shorter.

Here's a picture showing the Switchcraft stereo jack on my strat with a 1/2" jack route. As you can see, definitely long enough! Anyone intending to get a 1/2" route and a deep panel jack might want to buy the Switchcraft one instead of the gold non-Switchcraft

I needed all the holes on the front of my Mustang to put stuff in, so I just drilled and dremeled a 3/4"ish hole to hold a normal jack? What I don't like about those little 1/2" fellows is that when they go belly-up, there's nothing to mess with. On a regular jack, you can usually bend the little thingie back long enough to survive the gig, but when a 1/2" one goes, you're poodled. And it always happens when you least need it.  :sad1:

Yep .... Spot On  :icon_thumright:  thats exactly what I stated in my earlier post.

I asked the OP to measure that Gold jack ..... No reply to that
As I was sure they are shorter length.
They just look shorter !!

Can someone please measure that Gold Jack ? ........ for future reference for others.

I'll measure it and post an update as soon as I get home. I'm at work until 2:00 a.m. tonight  :tard:

Good call, Mero. I honestly didn't even notice that I was buying a different brand when I selected the gold jack. I definitely would have gone with the Switchcraft had I only known! Live and learn...

Haha, unfortunately, not quite! I found out that since I was going to install a LR Baggs piezo and preamp, the jack wouldn't be a sufficient replacement for the one that came with the Baggs kits. The Switchcraft one can't output stereo AND battery switching. The Baggs jack is too big to fit in the 1/2" hole, only barely fits in a 7/8" hole. I found a Fishman jack that might work though, emailed LR Baggs to ask them about it. Otherwise I'll probably just enlarge the hole and be done with it

I measured the gold non-Switchcraft jack, and it measures 1 5/16" from the jack to where the threaded cylinder ends (in other words, I didn't include the length of the soldering pins when I measured).

Mine's the same as Updown's - 1 1/2" excluding the pins. Looks like the non-Switchcraft one really is shorter

Yeah, that 3/8" really makes all the difference. I'm on my way to a friend's house who has the tools for the job. Thanks again everyone for all your help! :headbang:

Thanks very much for the measurements  :icon_thumright:  ... good work all.
