hi I am brand new to the forum and to warmoth, I am planning a tele build. I want an HXT p/u config and i want it to sound fat and glassy. I don't want it to sound muddy or like my 62 reissue. cuz, I already have my 62 :toothy10: any ways I want some super zippy wood there is an alder body already finished for cheep, that I like, what other woods do you guys suggest? walnut w/maple cap? all maple? I want it to slay SGs and LPs. thanks

Sounds like a fun project!  Don't forget that the pickups have just as much to do with the sound as the woods you use.  If you want it to 'slay lp's and sg's'  I would imagine that you would want to use something like rosewood ($$$) for the body...

Grab the alder body and get the best pickups you can find, be prepared to swap them out if you don't find the sound you're looking for at first. Also don't be afraid to play around with the values of pots and caps to get the right sound out of a particular guitar. You won't know really what you've got sound-wise till it's all together anyhow. The first build attempt is just an educated guess. BTW, nobody here knows what you mean by "slay LPs and SGs", they just put their own interpretation on it. Do you want to slay Clapton's tone on Beano, or do you want to slay Back in Black, or do you want to slay Live at Fillmore East, or etc. etc.?

Maybe he just wants to kill people? If that's the case, get an all maple or similar hardwood body, and make sure the neck is a fairly heavy wood so it has a balanced feel when swinging it. Aim for the side of the head, and really put your weight into it. I'm sure whatever guitar they're using won't really save them at that point

Especially if he's weilding one of these (the bass, not the Gene)...

In all seriousness though, listen to what he said:

cool, thanks guys. I'll probably just go alder w/ a maple neck. I am thinking about havings rs guitars build me a wire harness. for p/u's I was thinking something a little hotter than a 57 and a stacked p-90 clone in the bridge. i want fat glassy sustain. probably use it for moderate overdriven tones and clean stuff. probably going to go w/ 59 roundback neck. weight and cosmetics are not really an issue. mostly want it to sound like jeff tweedy's sg from wilco. want it to rock to. i am actually happy w. my alder/rosewood fb 62 thinskin. but I just got rid of es-335 which was my only hb guitar and now I feel like I need some humbucker in my life.
