Hello to all. It's my first post - no0b edition.  :headbang1:

I've recently just purchased a Warmoth Tele Thinline Body and Tele Neck. I'm be-freaking-fuddled at how hard good custom painters / artists are to find. The most professional easy to reach so far was Ed Roman out of Vegas but they're backed up until July and said 3-4 MONTHS after they get it....not to mention a steep pricetag.

As for all the other artists I've found online, they're either really flaky about getting back to me, websites look like they haven't been updated since Geocities era, or they're simply not available because they're so overbooked.

Can anyone here recommend someone trustworthy and affordable who could start the project once my body and neck arrive. I'd be happy to hire a forum member who knows their stuff really well.

Right now, the lady I'm talking to about having it done is in the perfect price-range, but can't touch it until "June at least".

I know good things come to those who wait, but fact of the matter is I need the guitar ready to go by early summer.

I'll include some shots resembling what I'm going for (hot-rod style flame job) as well as my Warmoth order specs below.

Thanks everyone!

The best guy on the forum is tonar. But I doubt he does flames. If you already have the parts your best bet is a custom car or bike painter. If you have not yet ordered, then get warmoth to paint it. They do great flames.

SERIOUSLY?! Dang...I feel dumb now. I had no idea Warmoth did custom art type jobs. I only saw finish type jobs. Can you post a link to some of their custom work or flame jobs? It'd be much appreciated. The guitar is already started by them but only 6 days ago. They have about a month left on it I believe.

Without doubt, the best flames I have seen on the forum are DBU's After Burner which was done by the Big W.
A smokin' geetar to say the least  :icon_thumright: :icon_thumright: :icon_thumright:
Good luck with your build...

Sweet baby Jesus. That is possibly one of the coolest jobs I've ever seen.

So if I'm followin' right....a poster here named DBU had the folks at Warmoth do that? I'll do a search for him on here and drop him a PM unless you guys might know who at Warmoth to contact?

Thanks so much. That's some serious geetar pr0n!

Aww, man. Doesn't look good....

CUSTOM FINISHES
You may find some of our custom finishes in the Showcase section of our web site (flames, odd colors, etc.), however, we've been backlogged for too long and are currently not accepting custom finishing orders. Please contact customshop@warmoth.com for inquiries on custom finishes.

Well, where is it right now? If they still have it, you need to get on the PHONE as well as a saturation e-mail campaign... :laughing7: Here is Death by Uberschall's profile page, if you scroll along the bottom you'll see that guitar.

Now, he went into from the start having a really good idea of what he wanted, and I think the was some back-and-forth planning? Anyway you really need to PM him and find out the scoop, and if your body is still at Warmoth, you're in luck! But call them immediately, as in 9am PST.

That notice about being too backlogged to accept custom finish orders has been on the site a long, long time.
Long before DBU had his After Burner finished.
Call the cats at the Big W and inquire a.s.a.p.  All of the folks in customer service are really helpful and will let you know if it can be done.
Be aware that there will be extra charges and don't be afraid to tell them you are more than willing to pay extra.
I don't know what your "Perfect Price Range" might be, but any time I have told them I am willing to pay, they have come through...
If they do tell you they can do it and it is a bit outside of your "Perfect Price Range," realize that it will be the best quality finish job possible.
Be sure to post some pics of this girl when you get her finished.

Thanks guys.

I spoke with Warmoth today just to get a timeframe but I only ordered this past Tuesday. They said it's got a good month or more before it reaches my doorstep. However....I'll totally call tomorrow and start the wheeling and dealing. I have no doubt they'll do the best possible job.

I'll report back with what they tell me!

I have no idea how much she charges, or what she's like to work with, but this woman does really nice finishes for major guitar companies:

First saw her work at a NAMM show.

Thanks Max,

That's part of the "flakey" problem I was describing with some of these guys. I shot emails off to Sims as well as "guitar paint guys". A very well crafted half hour email with links, attachments, questions, etc. Sims never bothered to get back to me, and guitar guys...who only allow contact through email, sent back a 2 sentence response saying they don't do metallic flake and turned me down flat. I kept thinking...."seriously this can't be that hard!?"

Fortunately - I just spoke with Spike at Warmoth and he said to shoot him an email tonight and he'd reply asap with details, so SWEET! Looks like this is going to actually happen.

And that, Freakoftheweek, is the difference between professionals running a business on the one hand, and hobbyists who are just trying to make the hobby pay for itself on the other.  You invest in the help you need to maintain the connection with customers that you need, or you end up creating a perception in the market that you're a flake, or a tool, or what have you.  And you remain small-time.

I, for one, love my Warmoth-finished guitars.  I'm sure you will love yours as well.

Peace
Bagman

I don't see why this would be so hard to paint. From your mockup it looks like just some masking and airbrushing for the shadow effect is all that's needed. Are you opposed to using automotive paints? All these colors would be readily available.
