Headstock Matching

Is there a reason why the body and headstock need to be the same wood?  I understand the aesthetic reasons for bursts, dyes, and trans finishes, but does this apply to solids?  I really want my basswood body with maple neck and still do a glow in the dark finish with matching headstock. :dontknow:

As long as it is an opeque color it will not matter.

So I could request a matching headstock for a solid finish even if the body doesn't match the neck?  I just want to be absolutely sure before I go ahead and order anything.

Consider:  Most necks are maple or mahogany; most bodies are not maple (more likely alder, ash, or mahogany).  Lotsa folks go for a matching headstock/body paintjob with an alder body and maple neck (probably the most common combo, in fact).

One caveat:  on an unfinished raw exotic, you can't get a veneer or painted headstock without getting the entire neck finished, which defeats the purpose for many.
