So what to use if you wanted to give your guitar a name and write it on the headstock?

We're talking about a non-finished exotic neck

I assume your question is on how to do it?
If so, there are a lot of choices. I've seen wood burning used (by hand and by Laser). You could do an inlay. You could hand letter it (pinstripe style). What I am looking into right now is adhesive backed vinyl. Not easy to find in Japan so far, but I believe Wolfie351 suggested that craft stores in the US would often have craft cutters that can cut out your custom pattern.  :dontknow:

I was hoping some kind of paint to be suggested actually

It is totally possible to paint a custom logo. I have done it on my old Squier JB with black model paint (acrylic), a very fine brush and lots of patience.

Thanks... but will acrylic be fine on an unfinished neck?

I have a die cutter send me a jpeg of what you like and I will do it for you. the vinyl is about 2mil so not as thin as a waterslide but not bad. no charge.

Acrylic paints are typically not very durable in their own right, and if you decide to top acrylic with lacquer, the solvents in the lacquer will melt the acrylic if you don't use an intermediate film of some comparatively inert finish such as shellac.

I am not sure. I would not recommend it on an oily wood with large open pores obviously. You could try if the wood has a tight grain. In the worst case, if it does not adhere well, it won't be difficult to scrap off.

The logo on my JB headstock has been here for 12 years and is holding fine. Again, I'm not saying it's the best solution, but it may be worth a shot.

it would be "Exotic" canary wood, unfinished because it doesn't need it - Warmoth doesn't offer the option indeed.

I want to paint her name on the headstock.

I'm not going to put any other finish under or over that.

I really appreciate the offer ocguy106, but I want to find a reproducible way to do this in Japan if possible. I might get back to you if I completely strike out!  Thanks Again!  :occasion14:
