Has anyone tried this?

Ok, so I'm jonesing hard for a new build, and I'm trying to keep to the showcase to keep costs down.  I found a few different bodies that I like in the Strat category (sadly, not enough selection in the musiclander category...) but they're all top routed.

Not that it's a bad thing, but my plan is for a single P90.

So I've heard that mounting P90s in a universal rout is POSSIBLE but difficult.  My question is, how difficult?  I haven't found anything rear routed that caught my eye, and I really don't want to go custom this time.  Has anyone tried mounting a P90 in a top routed guitar?

Use a Dog ear with modified Soapbar covers, use the appropriate hardware to secure the cover, and PG mount it from the base plate tabs?
Full face SG P90's are PG mounted.

Is the dogear a cover for the soapbar?  Or is it a completely different P90 housing?  I've already ordered a soapbar, and if all it takes is a dogear cover, that seems a fairly simple solution, but if not, I may have to make the soapbar work...

Or buy a humbucker sized P-90

David Allen, gfs and many others make them

two separate covers,
Soap Bars are wood mount through the two cover/bobbin holes.
Dog ears have tabs from the base plate that body mount hence the extended covers hide the ugly.
it's these same tabs that can be threaded and PG mounted.

I'm now wondering if I could get a dog ear cover, put it on the bottom of the P90 and use that as a mounting bracket...  Or if there would even be room for that in the rout.

I feel as though I have muddied the answer instead of helping....

So, Get a p90 for a SG special  all set to pg mount with the correct cover and everything, no modding just drop it in.

Meh.  I'm probably just overthinking it.  Would it really be that difficult to get a pickguard cut for a P90, then mount the pickup in a universal rout and just put the pickguard over it?  I mean, height adjustment is done with the foam anyway, right?

Or just do this...

Easiest solution....

I'm a little confused here. Just get a PG with the right size hole, put the P90 in it and do the regular wood mounting thing. That's only the way that, like, every P or J bass with a PG has ever been made.

Guitar players.  :dontknow:
