I was playing tap harmonics on my unamplified Les Paul.  I was able to hear the harmonics ring.

When I plugged into my computer amplifier simulation program I was not able to hear the harmonics properly.  The amplifier simulation program has all sorts of effects, noise gate ,etc.

Do you know what would cause thie harmonics to not ring properly(Other than misplaying them)?

Does it have to do with the pickups? the effects? the artificial amplification?

Thanks

Well, perhaps some noise gate or EQ settings are choking the harmonics... but thats just a guess.  :dontknow:

Try a different pickup?  If your pickup is directly under a harmonic node, the string's vibration might not be exciting the pickup's magnetic field very much.

Also, see what happens when you play straight into an amp.  Maybe all the simulated/modelling stuff is having some unintended consequences.

typically the bridge pickup will hear more harmonics in the strings. Also, compression may be known as a dynamic tool for bringing softer playing closer in volume to your harder playing, but it also can bring softer frequencies closer in volume to your higher louder frequencies depending on how its set. Try some different comp models.

And then we've got some old curmudgeons here who still remember bootstrapping tape readers, CP/M, 8" floppies, and teletypes that could compete with industrial chipper/shredders for sound pressure levels.

I'm not that old of a curmudgeon, and I remember'em - but then, I had odd hobbies as a boy of 10.

Windows XP or Vista?
:help:

Sorry, just had to... :glasses10:

Both are kick-ass OS's BTW. Not perfect - but nothing is.

Vista got a bad wrap because manufacturers were putting it on hardware that couldn't run it (properly) out of the box. Give it what it wants and its
as rock sold as LINUX, Windows 7, etc. And Vista really broke open the 64-bit OS for Joe User at home.

Sorry, I work in IT/IS - I live/eat/breath this stuff as much as Guitars and Iron Maiden.  :icon_biggrin:

How about those cassette tape drives Cagey? And I'll always have a special place in my heart for 8" Floppies.  :icon_jokercolor:

...and what? No love for OS/2??
