Ok so I have this Duncan stacked humbucker (looks like a single coil strat pickup) that's been in the neck position of many guitars, and is my all-time favorite neck position pickup.  It was sorta stuck in the guitar that it came out of last, and the cardboard (i'm guessing here) base to the pickup was slightly pulled away from the stacked bobbins.  I slapped it in a guitar and it doesn't work.  :(  I took it out and wired another pickup in that guitar, which does work.  I wired it into another guitar, but still nothing.  I have not gone through with a multimeter yet, because I wasn't sure if this is something that's able to be repaired easily.

What do you guys suggest as far as what to do, who to take the pickup to for repairs, etc?  I'm gonna be all kinds of sad panda if this pickup is dead.

you've managed to disconnect one of the windings of the bobbins.  It's repairable, but unless you know what you're doing I would not try it yourself.

Sent it out - Fralin or lollar will look after you.

My first thought was "It needs to be in a guitar to work."
My second thought was +1 to Trevor.

The bottom flatwork which is made of vulcanized fibre has pulled away from the assembly. The coils are potted and when the flatwork pulled away it either pulled a winding with it and broke it or if when you put in the guitar the force of it being pulled up by the screws caused the flatwork to pinch/break the winding against the magnet.

It can be repaired. Hopefully the bottom flatwork isn't too loose now, but that be overcome too.

Check to be sure that the leads of the coils aren't broken where they are connected to the lead wires. That is usually an easier fix and doesn't require a rewind.

Is it worth fixing or should I honestly trash it?  I have no freaking idea what specific pickup this is since I bought it around 12 years ago while on the road to replace a pickup that suffered a violent death involving beer (an incident which also resulted in a replaced neck).  It has a Duncan pickup cover, and it's one coil on top of the other.  Should I post a pic later?

You see, I'd just buy a couple to try them out, but I'd end up building a guitar around the pickups I didn't use.

Yeah, post a pic if you don't mind.

If you like it, really like it then have it repaired. It will be cheaper than replacing it.

Edit* poor typing.

+1.  If you like it - and you can't get another any other way - get it fixed.

Hey TT I am surprised you didn't offer to fix it, or replace it

TT is a pickup maker BTW for all you who didn't know, he makes some nice pups
