Hagstrom Swede Anyone?

Bjorn Ulvaeus of ABBA was a Hagstrom endorsee early on. Nowadays he could buy the whole company! :toothy12:
So, Superlizard, you could do great covers of "Waterloo" with that guitar if you got one. Like the tone filter switch, I think Gretsch has something similar..

I've got one just like that, it's fantastic value for the money but it helps to know what you buy - an all mahogany 24,75" scale guitar with humbuckers. There will be no twang with a Swede! It's fundamental all the way rather than harmonic richness. To me that's a good thing, but people are different. Fretboard is "resonwood", a multi laminate made to be very stable and ebony-like.
The neck is wonderful, rather thin and flat but very stable. Unfortunately mine happens to be a rare dud as the truss rod is jammed, otherwise it has no flaws. The tone filter has three settings - middy, bypass and no treble. I find myself using the middy position quite often for certain lead sounds. Note that the cutaway is not quite as generous to the hands as on a standard LP. The tuners have a 18:1 ratio I think and feel pretty sweet. Pickups are good quality PAF types.
Weight is above average like most LP type guitars, which can be either reassuring or a pain depending on your preference. I've certainly played heavier LPs though.
All in all a solid guitar. I wish the truss rod worked on mine and sometimes that it was slightly lighter. Sometimes the pickups are a bit overwhelmed by all that mahogany too...

own pickups and change the 2nd toggle to do split/parallel or similar. Technically the wood construction is almost the same as my Agile 3100,
and I've no issues with that.

I know this thread is long dead, but I am almost famous for necroposting.
I own a black Swede and a Tobacco Burst Super Swede (and I've got a Hagstrom HB-4 bass). I love their stuff. I almost went and bought a Swedie just because ... I was GAS-ing. I didn't though.
Part of what I love about Hagstrom is that they are very lefty friendly. Like you, I'm a southpaw.
I'm on the verge of swapping out the buckers in my Swede for Mean 90s. I just don't want to fire up the soldering iron while it's so hot outside.
Last year, I rewired the girl with Les Paul '50s style wiring, Russian Paper-in-Oil capacitors, braided wire, all that jazz. For my first wiring job ... I'm pretty happy that the thing works! Sounds pretty good, too! I just wish I hadn't wired the pup toggle in reverse (up is bridge down is neck ... whoops
)

I love their headstock, and their guitars, in general. My black Standard Swede is so beautifully resonant, to play it unplugged is a joy. Just sitting on my couch, picking and strumming, there is so much mojo in that body, it beggars belief I got the thing for $420 USD.
