Great Balls of Fire!

This build started out as a joke.  I jokingly posted a red padouk neck with a really nice green flame maple swamp ash body, both from the showcase.  The comments were hilarious!  Garish!  Christmas Ornament!  For those reasons alone, this build had to become a reality.

I personally think it looks great, from an '80s hair band era.  But since it really is so obnoxious, it had to sound obnoxious, as well.  Of course it has a Floyd.  It also has a DiMarzio X2N in the bridge slot and a DiMarzio Norton in the neck.

If anyone wants to know any of the other components, I'll be glad to share.  :laughing7:  It is aptly named "Great Ball of Fire," with Christmas balls on the neck plate.  Another great DangerousR6 creation!

It's also the first time I directly mounted the humbuckers to the body without rings.

That doesn't look nearly as garish as christmas decorations. The red/brown and green actually look danged sharp together. I like.

It does not remind me most Jacksons and Kramers from the '80s. Looks classy & classic, more like an Anderson Drop Top.

I believe the right shade of green and red look great combined, this is one example. And ebony (with highly figured maple) are my favorite woods for guitar. After trying the "exotic" woods from Warmoth I still like these two more for looks, I'll leave the tone aside as it's subjective. Macassar Ebony for fretboards and Flame/Birdeye Maple for everything!

Wow!  Thanks for all the kind words, guys!  :glasses9:  I personally liked it, but as you all know, taste is personal.

Kostas, I see now what you mean about the Anderson Drop Top.  Not too far off.  Completely unintentional.  And to think I was going to post the last pic with a pair of thongs hanging off the headstock, lol!

:rock-on:

On a different note, I notice a lack of commentary from those who used the words "garish" and "christmas ornament."  :laughing7:

I said Christmas decorations were garish, not the guitar

I think the greater point is that Doc has so many guitars, he can run holiday themes at his discretion lol.  Bring on Halloween!

That is a gorgeous guitar, btw.

Thanks, Frank.  Funny point you make.  You have seen me put a few together, but what you haven't seen are the ones I have taken apart to make room for the new additions.

That said, Stratamania challenged me to a Floyed-out metal Tele.  Halloween, indeed...🎃

Hah. Looking forward to seeing this Melecaster or Metalcaster come together. Love a good challenge.
