Gotoh 510TS-FE2 fail

Hi,

today I recieved my warmoth order which was great, but I've got a couple of problems. One of them is that I got a Gotoh 510TS-FE2 (vintage 6-screw) and it won't fit in the rout. The screw spacing is all right but the shaft were you screw the tremolo arm in will press against the rout so the screw holes on the tremolo won't match the ones drilled on the body.

I'm looking at specs for other vintage tremolos an all of them seem to have similar widths for the blocks  or even having this sort of shaft, so I'm wondering, can it be a faulty rout? That would be real bad luck because it's happening on the two bodies I've got.

Does anybody owns one of this? Somebody with similar experiences?

I don't want to spend another hundred bucks on a new tremolo if this has a fix :(

I'm attaching a picture to help explain what I'm talking about (I know the diagram is not from a 510TS but it's the only one I could find with that shaft thing for the arm).

Thanks

Did you buy the Gotoh trem that isn't working, from Warmoth and ask them to match the trem ?

No I didn't, I know that's my mistake. But all the 6 hole vintage tremolos they sell on their site are gotoh, so I assumed the rout would match.
No assumptions next time I guess...

In any case, what's the warmoth route for a 6 hole vintage trem matched for then?

Just pullin' this out of my head, but I'd guess prob'ly routed to fit a gen-u-wine  Fender Synchronized Tremolo, since the Warmoth body is a licensed Fender design.

I'm sure one of the Warmoth employees who frequents tihs board will weigh in, or some other person more knowledgeable than myself.

Sorry you are having an issue. The chance of the rout on the body being off is pretty slim. On the Warmoth bridge routing option page the Gotoh 510 TS-RS1 can be routed by hand for an extra $45.

(Bottom of this page) http://www.warmoth.com/Guitar/Bodies/Options/BridgeRoutingOptions.aspx

This would seem to indicate that the Gotoh 510 trems are different than what we normally rout for, so a fit issue is very possible. Rob Rounds at Warmoth can help you further to determine your body is routed correctly. Give him a call or email. rob@warmoth.com

Thanks.

Thanks for the info guys.

Yeah, the routes should be ok. I tried it in two bodies and I'm having the same issue.
Unfortunatey I couldn't find anywhere where it speced the width of the block plus the shaft for the tremolo arm, and having the same screw spacing I assumed it would fit.
I didn't see that note on changing the rout to git Gotoh trems Gregg. In any case it's my mistake and I have to say that so far everything looks top notch from the parts I got.

At least I hope this is going to be useful for other people wanting to fit one of this tremolos in.

So I took some more measurements and checked the specs of a Gotoh/Wilkinson VSVG and it looks like it would fit. But just to triple check...anybody got this tremolo? Does it fit on a standard 6-hole rout?
I heard really good things about it, but any feedback on it would be much appreciated as well.

Thanks again

here's the spec pic from stewmac:

Hey,

thanks AutoBat. I saw that on StewMac myself already.
But I was just triple checking not to run onto the same problem again.

Thanks tho

If you want to use a 510 series trem with the recommended 'Wilkinson' rout, you will be left with this..

My new preference is to use the 'American Standard Fender' rout and just mod it a little with a dremel tool to accommodate the arm holder thingy.

Hey Clark,

thanks for the pics, it's always cool to see what really happens.
I'll try to get some practice with this sort of mods on old guitars, but it's good to see you can do it without chipping the finish (that was my main concern).

Thanks!
