Over a long weekend at Paul the Pyronaut's Sierra Surf Camp.  My mind is still blown.
If you don't know Slacktone, go listen.  It's surf, but Dave's theory is so deep he's got a lot of interesting chordal arrangements, and harmonies that aren't in the usual surf fare.
Check out his Bells of St. Kahuna.  Jaguars sound like that in heaven.
Here's the new one he showed up with, and did a setup clinic with us.  His 'day gig' is checking out the higher end guitars at Fender before they leave the shop for correct setup, and QC.

All the bands were great, the Pyronauts, the Sneaky Tikis, John and the Nightriders, but Slacktone are the kings.

Plus, Wronski makes AWESOME guitar faces!

THanks for the pointer.  I'm enjoying the youtube goodies on Slacktone now.

Awesome!

I've had a chance to hang with him over the internet, and while I've met Dusty and Sam, I still haven't had a chance to meet Dave.

And yeah, Slacktone is teh bestest. Yup.

Dusty can tell Dick Dale stories all day, too.  Great guys, generous with their time and knowledge.

Dave was our coach for the SB101 bands.  The instructors put the students together into bands, based upon experience, etc, so we'd learn from each other.  I got to work with a couple of kids from the Sneaky Tikis.  I wrote a tune I'm calling Sierra Surf, and debut it at the camp.  (dang kids kept pushing the speed of the tune!!)
When you rehearse a song, and you see Dave Wronski kinda light up, you know you must be doing SOMEthing right.  Note Warmoth guitar content.  I played the bass vi on another tune.

True.  Quilter PA, a quilter tiny stack and a quilter combo.  Loved the PA.  Not so much the guitar amps.
I was playing through that Showman tower of power, and it wasn't optimal, but I played bass on the first number, and it was great.  Despite all the claims, I still haven't heard a solid state amp I really like.

Maybe weekend of July 6ish?  My mom's in town this weekend, then my wife's mom the following weekend... everyone wants a piece of the toddler this summer.  The party never stops!

Surf is a good foundation for avoiding some of the ridiculous overcrowding in the "blues-rock"  logjam. You would really dig on the Vanduras:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F6zYm3A2rrw Their album "In the Dark" always creeps up in my rotation. As far as the all-important authenticity vs. poseur horror - Vanduran G. Brandin is one of the three steel guitarists who created the "Spongebob Squarepants" ouvre! Can't beat that with a stick... a 6'6" pintail stick....

:party07: :cool01:

I've even wondered if the classic Dead tune "Dark Star" isn't at heart, an ultimate surf extension. It sure ain't da blooze. We can all bless our lucky Jerrys for that!

Built that himself. His champagne jag was really the inspiration for my build.

Well, kinda.  Guitar Mill did the body and paint ("that's lacquer... the real stuff!"), the pickups are secret unobtainium factory Fender.  The pickups should come standard on some of the new high end jags straight from the factory soon.  He was really impressed with the level of detail going into the new ones, and especially those pickups.  The neck is a '63 he's had in his collection for a while ("one of the best I've ever found").
That was the best sounding jaguar I have ever heard, I'll tell you that.  Might just be in Wronski's hands, but it sounded amazing.
Actually the finish wasn't dead flat.  But it was flat gorgeous.

Well, I suppose if you want to look at it that way, only the internet famous ludobag builds his own guitars. :icon_biggrin: That man is a machine.

Yeah, the typical wronski touches as well. 5 way switch, empty rhythm circuit, dice tip, paper/oil caps. Good stuff.
