Good neck for a black korina body

Im thinking about doing a chambered black korina body but im not sure on the neck. At first I was thinking black korina/rosewood but I dont see that option avalible, so what would go good?

I think its much easier to make a good sounding guitar than it is to make a bad one. :dontknow:

My final goal for this build is to be as well rounded as I can make it. I want it to be able to cover as much ground sonically as it can. I realize that the pickups and other hardware impact the sound also but I want this to be balanced from the begenning.

IMHO, you can't go wrong with wenge/ebony or goncalo alves/pau ferro.  I have one of each.  Those combos are usually plentiful in the showcase.

There's a reason you see maple/rosewood necks everywhere.  It's a solid, proven combination that suits a wide variety of sounds and playing styles.

Whatever you choose, make sure it's raw!

Wenge/Ebony seems to be the most popular choice.

At first I thought raw but I kind of want something that will match, asteticlly, with a vintage tint finish on the body. Hence why I was thinking a black korina neck with a vintage satin tint on the neck. But it seems that a black korina neck is kind of hard to come by and thats why I'm here.

And did I mention that this needs to be a Jazzmaster neck.

You don't always need to match. Sometimes a complement looks good. The Ebony over Wenge that's been mentioned a couple times would do that. A black fretboard will complement anything, and the solid dark chocolate brown Wenge neck meat will complement the streaks in the Limba nicely. Plus, it would be a fairly even-toned neck that satisfies your desire for a raw wood. I've had several necks here with that construction, and they're nice. My only caveat would be that the Wenge is pretty open-grained wood, so if you have a tendency to sweat a lot, it could get grungy.

Thanks for the insight Cagey, and thank you too everyone for the suggrstions. More to your point Cagey I do tend to sweat a fair amount when I play so when you say grungy do you mean a good cleaning will take care of it or something a little more?

And here is a mock up of what I'm thinking about for the body.

Here's my Trans Amber BK VIP with a wenge/ebony neck, pretty close to what you're talking about. A lot of people think it's the best looking guitar in my army...

I've never had one long enough to find out. But, there are a lot of nooks and crannies in that wood, even after Warmoth has machined/sanded the stuff as flat as it can get.

I can't find a good detailed close-up picture of what Warmoth's end result is, but this is a shot of better piece before finishing...

Oddly enough, for as coarse as it looks, it's actually a very slick wood due to its hardness. I mean, that shot would give you the impression that the first time you slid your and across it you'd end up with a half-dozen splinters. But, no. It's almost a plastic feel. Then, because the surface isn't perfectly smooth, there's less surface area to provide friction. Ends up being a fast-playing neck.

I don't think your picture posted right Jack, which is a shame because I would love too see it.

Here's a thread from several years back where he uses an Ebony over Wenge neck on a Wenge over BK VIP body. Not exactly what you're planning, but close enough for rock 'n' roll with lotsa pictures.

The neck combination is starting to grow on me and thanks for the thread. Now I'm sure that this next question probably needs to go in another section but since i'm here I'll go ahead and ask it.

This is more or less the look I'm going for.

Will the vintage tint finish give me this look?

You'd want to specify WHITE korina for that look.  Which is the exact same species as black.  The difference is the presence of mineral streaks in the lumber.

That is exactly what I needed to know Bagman! Thank you for that tid bit. And Warmoth offers White Korina bodies?

Yep, they do, from time to time.  That might be a phone-call order, rather than a body-builder order.

I just sent them an email about that. SInce we're on the topic, what would be a good substitute?
I know the big G started mahongy instead of korinaso would that be my next best bet?

Yep, that'd be the nearest available substitute.  If you're doing a custom build, you could request that they find the lightest-colored blank available, and finish with amber as they did for the sample image you cited.  It'd prob'ly get you pretty close.
