An interesting look...

Other than on a few odd Gibson models, and the pricey Q-tuners, you don't see very many clear pickups covers.

That's a pretty decent live performance.  I didn't see the horns, probably on keyboards.  Are those in the original?  Was there more of a B3 thing there in the original replaced by horns for the live version?

If you are Tom Petty then I guess you get to do sideburns like that................................................. and try to burn down your house lighting a joint

Love the PU covers.

Horns are seen at the end.

Gotta love Tom Petty.  They sould GREAT even back then!  He has huge talent!  How else would a guy that looks like that with a voice that sounds like make it.......Band is always top notch too.

He ranks up there with the best for sure...

He doesn't look as bad or goofy as many musicians do, although he does have an unusual singing voice. I suspect that's part of his allure. It's got him some acting/voice parts, which may be a secret ambition for him. He had an acting part in "The Postman" with Kevin Costner, where he runs some post-apocalyptic community, and he's the voice of "Lucky" (Luann's boyfriend/fiance/husband) on "King of the Hill", among other more obscure parts.

I've always enjoyed his work. For some reason, I always associate him with "The Cars", even though there's no connection between them whatsoever. I think they were popular about the same time, and they both had unusual singer/composer talents.

Nice post cagey.  I did not realize that about king of the hill.

My acoustic act is doing about 6 tom petty songs.  I suspect it could be even more.

Well, you wanna be careful you don't turn into a "tribute band". As cools as some of those can be, it limits your market pretty severely.

I should probably post this in the "favorite videos" thread, but I've always enjoyed the "Last Dance With Mary Jane" video...

It's angsty without the Seattle grunge or Goth harshness, drawing up love and despair at the same time. Plus, the slow drums, lingering bass, percussive guitar rhythm and broken up overdrive of the lead all mix nicely to backdrop the story. A bit of monotony in the vocals helps, too, kinda like some of Bob Dylan's work or that old Gordon Lightfoot tune "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald"...

Did someone say funny looking musicians?

please allow me to picspam you the MUSICIANS I LISTEN TO.

have fun trying to figure out the gender on half of these people.

That Tom Petty clip brought back flashbacks from the Us Festival or something for me.

The eighties almost killed me the first time around.
