Got the body for project number 1, to go with the neck I got a while ago.  It's a basic solid L5s, nothing spectacular.  It's going to be a very minimalist build this one, with lost of understated black hardware. The body is Mahogany, with a maple cap.

oh, I forgot to add, that the legs of the pickups don't fit into the pickup cavities - the round routing doesn't allow for the square shape. Am I better to sand the pickup rout, or clip the corners off the pickup legs?

Nice looking body.  I think it will look good with black hardware.

Since you said you are going minimalist, I'm assuming that you are not using EMG pups.  That said, I think I'd just clip the corners off of the pup legs.

it's my first build, so I went very simple.

The pickups I'm using are a pair of Bare Knuckle VHIIs on advice from Tim regarding the sound I was after.  They are flat black finished similar to EMGS and can be seen in this thread  http://www.unofficialwarmoth.com/index.php?topic=2963.0

:icon_scratch: Does not compute... Looked at pics of those PUs on the Bare Knuckle site; are they a non-standard size? Warmoth NB routes are pretty much standard and I've never had an issue getting HBs i the routes. Are you using mounting rings? What is the width?

they're a standard size, and you can choose the length of the legs.

I will be using mounting rings, but haven't got any available to do a mock mount, just yet.  All I have done is stick the pickups on the mount points, but they sit on top of the body. There's not enough clearance on the sides for them to drop in.

Perhaps if you take the finish in the pickups cavity they enter better... or a slight bigger rout...
Strange, I've bough a L5S body (unfinished) and two Bare Knuckle A4 Mules and they fit very nice...  :dontknow:

It looks like you could just clip the legs on those.

So long as it isn't going to hurt your ability to adjust height...I'd say go for it as well.  It's probably the least intrusive for both the body and pickups if they ever became separated into different projects.
