After much looking and thinking old Spud has seized the proverbial day and gone straight to the pinnacle of Filtertron.................esque........pickups to gingerly dip his toe in the water! TV Jones? .......nope, Gretsch?.....no sir..........Duncan?...........no way............Artec?..........oh yes! We shall see.I now feel that Filtertron pickups are very likely evil and should be steered clear of!!
If I decide I want to go quality ones, I might try Seymour Duncan Psychlotrons in a Humbucker shell.I’ve been hmmming and hawing over another Filtertron guitar myself Spud. For my cabronita build I sourced some Gretsch Mega’trons which are sooperhot ceramic import trons found on the Corvettes, but finding a set is quite difficult.
I think an interesting way to approach this would be getting a hotter tron, like a Powertron, and having a Wilde pickups Q Filter in the controls to roll off some impedance - passively shape it down to Classic/Ray Butts/T-Armond impedance with a knob.
I have a set of these on the shelf waiting for a future build. If I decide I want to go quality ones, I might try Seymour Duncan Psychlotrons in a Humbucker shell.
Send to me immediately.I have a set of these on the shelf waiting for a future build.
ain't no Z body happening, not doing a Prince revival gig.I have REALLY been wanting to try the Lollartron humbuckers for a while now. I thought my current work in progress was going to be the proper candidate, but now I'm leaning towards a set of El Rayos. Lollars are expensive, but I have yet to be let down! There's just something about them that I dig. TV Jones was also on the radar, but I decided against the "Trons" for the time being. I do, however, love my TV Starwood Tele pickups and would not be at all bashful about choosing that company for another pickup set. There are so many quality pickup manufacturers out there right now it boggles the mind.
@Spud , are we still talkin' about a "Z" body here? Make with the details, man! (By the way, you should consider trying a Bigsby!).
@TBurst Std ... those Zoomtrons have me intrigued, for sure. I was just checking them out a few days ago. It's almost a pickup I need to design a guitar around!![]()
