Gilmourish Black Strat (yes, another)

I know some people think the Black Strat thing is over done, but I really don't care. This is a project I have had in mind for a long time. Gilmour is the main reason I picked up guitars in the first place. Body and neck are Warmoth parts. Picking up the neck tomorrow from the tech, where it received a fret level and finish.
Callaham bridge, EMG DG pickups, vintage tuners from the Warmoth shop.
First time working with copper foil. I have used shielding paint on all previous projects.

Unfortunately, that's it. The person that packed my box didn't include the battery box I ordered, so I won't be able to button everything up until next week unless the tech has a box in stock. Beyond frustrating. I was hoping to play tomorrow! But what is a another week wait when I have been waiting for years for this guitar?

Me, either. I love a black Strat. I've owned more than one, and loved them each. I'm sure this one will be just as desirable. Looks good already, and it's still half-nekkid!  :icon_biggrin:

You can never go wrong with basic black no matter the guitar style. It's classy.

Are you using the SPC/EXG controls for the full on DG setup?

I've had a couple black Strats myself, and they were fine guitars.  Dunno why I ditched the first one - probably just stupidity - but the second one went the way of all flesh when Wife 1.0 and I parted ways, and I needed cash more than I needed guitars.  Over it?  Sorta.  Built myself a dandy Strat which is floating around in the "Strat" galleries, but it ain't black.

Strat 1 was a Japanese '57 reissue, and it was the bee's knees.  Maple board, soft-v neck profile, just awesome.

Strat 2 was a Carvin Bolt with a Wilky and locking Sperzels, which convinced me I don't need six-screw tremolos nor non-locking tuners, if at all avoidable.

Anyway -

Yours looks like a lovely start to a beautiful instrument.  Enjoy!

Built mine out of a MIM Fender Jimmie Vaughan strat.  Nice soft V neck with a satin finish.  Added an Overdrive Custom Guitarworks black acrylic .120 pickguard and EMG DG20 pickups.  I also picked up the guitar in large part because of David Gilmour.  Now if I could just make mine sound the same.............

Looking forward to giving her the rest of the word tomorrow!  Hopefully some good pics by afternoon.

Very fool! I got a SRV profile on my neck. Havent seen pics of other black strats with EMGs. So much for me being unique  :icon_jokercolor:
I have nailed the tone on a couple songs,  just looking to go full bore. The EMGs give me options. My other strat has tex mex neck and mid with a ssl5 bridge for more traditional tones.

Always do what most resonates with you personally. There is something to be said about the personal connection to a guitar and whatever creates that for you, go for it every time. I love black strats and have my own design aesthetic about it that does it for me.

Spent a good chunk of the morning running around and then getting this assembled. Here's picture of some progress:

I always keep excess hardware from pretty much everything. Some came in handy this morning as a bushing press.

It works!

Neck done and bolted one. Amazing how much easier this went together than my cheaper partscaster I did last go round. Quality goes a long way.

Gotta love a black Strat! Here is mine from a couple of years back, the body is Warmoth, Neck is a Fender 57 Japanese Reissue, loaded pickguard has "add neck" pickup recessed switch. Fat 50s, CS69 ,Seymour Duncan SSL 5. Cost = Under £1000 as opposed to Davids Fender Custom shop model which is around £3000.
Enjoy that build!

The whole breathing thing has been overdone too, yet it remains a fantabulous idea.  Nice fiddle.
