Gibson built something nice looking...Les Paul tribute.

And Billy hasn't even invented anything

Actually, Billy is a fabulous story teller....the thing is, most people who know him, or have known him, say that everything that comes out of his mouth is fabricated, or some very major distortion of the truth.  So, one could make the argument that he has invented a whole reality.

looks too expensive for a guitar that can't intonate

It can intonate - have its intonation set, both for overall length and for compensation.  The original could too.  The original tail (the only thing Les actually designed on the guitar) was an understrung affair, with the strings laying under the bridge "bar".  The new one has the strings over the top.  There may be some other compensation built into the bridge, as is found on the "Jr" tailpieces.. cant see that in the image.  But you can see its strung over the top of the bridge.  The hinge is also upgraded somewhat.

I get the MF catalog in the mail, and Gibson does have some great-looking variant sunbursts for the Les Pauls - root beer & desertburst & iced tea and faded cherry & siennaburst and whatnot, there are so many I can't keep them straight. I'd love to have a 335-ish guitar with a faded tobacco burst - just not a Gibson, maybe a Heritage or something. If somebody gave me a Les Paul, I'd play it for a while.

That 535 looks about right.

I want one of those too!
