what do you guys think of this...

It reminds me of the "gator" case my old Les Paul Jr. came in.

I'm not sure I like it on a guitar.  I wonder if it feels textured or smooth.

Reminds me of the Bone Collector knives from Benchmade.

I think I like the look better on the knife.

I love the BFG, but from what I have heard from other people Gibson took the "rough" aesthetic a little too far. Most people say it feels like they didn't even touch it with sandpaper or anything. But I absolutely want one. I really want one of the old amber ones....

They are rough...with a satin nitro finish.  But not too rough to bother someone.  I have played one and the tone does rock!  I love the idea of the humbucker in bridge and p-90 in the neck.  The color is great too.

I am actually considering.  The only thing that bothers me is the lack of fingerboard markers..

Ibanez has been doing this for a while with their Caiman:

They are smooth to the touch aside from the texture and kind of cool to look at although to be honest, I always felt like they were just a cheap way of producing a finish that was not perfectly smooth and flawless.

What I don't like about the BFG are those knobs. Ick. But the colour is really cool, even if I can't really see myself buying one.

I actually really want one. Just like that. Only with a Floyd. And make the back Black Korina. And make the neck Wenge. Hmm... I wonder where I could get one of those?  :icon_scratch:

I've always liked the BFG. Does this look any different than they always have?? It's just a green dye on maple, right? *shrug* not a big fan of green. And i'm a big fan of Ibanez, but i think those texturized graphic gator finishes look so god-aweful and cheap

AFAIK, this is the first BLUE BFG that ever was... I know, because I did it!

Started as black, got stripped, very lightly sanded, dyed, and lacquered.  The top lacquer is a few extra coats to help smooth things out a little.  Rewired "my way" to give the extra "middle" tone control, and extra selector (chicken head) that does standard 3way parallel, out of phase, and series.

It didn't stay blue for long... and has settled into a sort of teal color from the dichroic dye separation and the lacquer yellowing.

looks great...what was it originally?

"Started as black....." pretty much sums it up!  And it was a rough nasty.... the lacquer was actually sticky and gummy.  Took all of 5 minutes with a rag and lacquer thinner to get it all off.

Stupid Question:

"What does the 'BFG' stand for?"

I really have no idea....  :dontknow:
