GFS NAL5 Mellow "underwound" vintage pickup

Just because this is something I've sorta whined about recently. GFS has a new Neovin, NAL5 Alnico SIngle Pickup- Mellow "underwound" vintage pickup. 

"Here's a very unique noise canceling pickup. Underwound and very crisp and clean- perfect for guitars with active preamps or for players looking for a strat sounding pickup to match vintage output pickups- like lipsticks, filtertrons or Dearmonds. "

It's almost the inverse of what I was looking for though - I like that searing upper mid snap the Memphis has, not really looking for a strat sound out of it.

I think under-wound pickups are getting more popular because most amps have at least one high-gain channel and most players have pedalboards with 284 little boxes on them to modify the snot out of the guitar signal, so you don't need little nuclear reactors mounted on the guitar any more. You can start with something that has a good tone/character and go from there.

Ironic given the way acceptance of those preamps on the other end of the cable went 30 years ago.

Yeah, well, times change. We've gone from Karen Carpenter (Ms. cuddle bunny herself) to Alanis Morissette (the quintessential angry bitch) in roughly the same time. I mean, geez - don't ever let her near a gun fer crissakes.
