Well, the trick is to find a sponsor that will obviously make money off of the association with you.  The only one that I've had luck with is beer companies - molson specifically.

go to miller high life site, they sponsor you
I did that too--waiting on the check. I'm also waiting on my certificate of ordination from the Universal Life Church and a call for a second interview with a top-notch IT firm in my area.

In regards to getting sponsored, it does make life a little easier to be old enough to play in bars in order to get sponsorship. Beer and liquor distributors are always looking at creative and unique ways to sell their wares. I'm glad I read your profile, and found out you were from my home state. A good friend of my dad drives short-track stock car, and told me about the stuff he went through in regards to getting sponsored. I'm sure at least some of this information may transfer over to music from motorsports. He told me the soda distributors can be tight-gripped due to the strict regulations the soda companies have on their bottlers. I'm not sure what part of Wisconsin you're in, but if you're close enough to Shawano, stop and see the Sun Drop guys. Each bottler is independent, and aren't hooked up to the Pepsi or Coke teat, so to speak. Plus, Sun Drop out of a glass bottle is something everyone needs to try once.

Being younger, you may also draw some appeal from an energy drink rep. I have a fraternity brother who was a Monster rep here in Marquette, and he organized sponsorship for a couple of snowboarding events, as well as a BMX bike race. Also, keep an open mind--think about what businesses in your area are "rock" businesses. You never know how fast you can run unless you really poke a mountain lion with a stick.

By the way, where in Wisconsin are you?  I was born and raised in Appleton--I grew up on Tom's Drive-in and WAPL

I have a friend who is a part time fishing guide and amateur tour fisherman and he pulls down 50K+ a year doing it and never works a day year.  He said his trick is stay away from the industry stuff because they are tapped out with the big names.  They also don't want to pay you, just give you free product.  However, he has a boat and how much fishing line and poles do you need?  He hits up car dealerships, furniture retailers, anyone with money that doesn't want it back, just a tax deduction.  If you can land 8 at 4 grand each, you're half way there.  He works out the specifics with each of them, but it's the usual display their logo and send them updates.
