i know this is for DIY finishes, but i was talking to a furniture finishing place about painting my guitar. I want a simple black gloss finish on a mahogany body with a maple top, but i want a hard finish and to be durable. what would be the best questions to ask these people to make sure i get a legit paint job? Thanks!

well just tell them of the type of paint you wanted them to use and how thick etc? and well is it flame maple top? if so if you bought it from warmoth why do you want to cover it up?

because it was cheaper and exactly what i wanted, just so happened it was prebuilt with with a flame top. the thing is i dont know what the best type of paint/thickness is. thats basically the question i am asking.

ah right awesome good on you for finding it then  :icon_thumright: and well im not sure about best paint or thickness so ill let someone else answer that,

after the sale is over sell it to someone here who wants a flame maple top and get yourself a nice gloss black body from W.

+1 (and quoted for truth) seems like a shame to paint over flame maple, no matter how cheap the body was...

If you paint over a maple top you will anger the guitar gods. Thou shalt put a clear finish on maple tops!

you dont say much about the body.... PICTURES ....will help

But, you should be able to get them to do it in black lacquer.  Or do it yourself in black lacquer.  Easy, fairly durable, traditional.
