Here are some pics of the 6 string bass I'm making using a Gecko 6 string neck and zebrawood.  Let me know what you think.

thanks, I was thinking something like Ritter and Carl at the same time.  I honestly think of it as an offset jazz though.  The upper and lower horns will probably get crazy before its all done!

I can hear it now.."Jerry was a race car driver, he drove so god damned fast, He never did win no checkered flags but he never did come in last"........ :headbang1:

Nice.  So how hard was it to carve the neck pocket?
ulk

not bad at all, I freehanded it.  I used a router to hog out the bulk in 3 passes, then I used some chisels to smooth it out and fit the neck.  Alot easier than I thought it would be!  I made a template, but I didn't even use it!  I just went at it  :toothy10: :toothy10:

it's looking great already.  can't wait to see pics when it's got round curves

That's a nice piece of zebrawood, I like the loose grain pattern of it compared to most zebrawood that's got real tight lines. Yours has a grain to it more like black korina... :icon_thumright:

I'm thinking more like "My Name is Mud".  :icon_jokercolor:

And she stroked him all the time.
She pricked her finger one day and it occurred to her
She might have a porcupine"

Nice piece of wood and neat-looking neck joint. Not mad on the shape, but it isn't being made for me  :icon_biggrin:
Bet your workshop stinks after cuting that Zebrano, though.

thanks for all the comments.  I even appreciate the Primus lyrics...  Les is one of my favorite bassists/frontman...

I hope to be done with this relatively soon.  I am also restoring a 66 mustang, that needs alot of little things...needs alot of time.  I have most of the parts, just need some little brackets for the front grille and valance.

Not much progress, but I did finish cutting most of the shape with a jigsaw and started shaping the body.

I was wondering. How did you round off the edges? Did you sand it of did you use a rounding over router bit?

Does zebra wood stink when cut? I've never worked with it. I've had some red oak that smelled less attractive than old armpit wrung out in used cat litter when it was cut. Not sure why that is, because it doesn't happen consistently. But, every once in a while, I'll get a piece that's just skanky as hell when I machine it.
