Not really out of the box as it is still in the shop.  This is for me and I thought it might be interesting for some to see some shots from the shop.

Specs are:
Spalt maple/black accent line/swamp ash body
Maple/maple neck with matching spalt veneer
Nordstrand Fat Stack pickups
Aguilar OBP-2 preamp
Hipshot A bridge
I'm trying to figure out how to tear apart a Yamaha NE-1 preamp and stick the guts in the bass as a sort of variable bandpass mid filter.

The body and neck will be finished with a slight vintage tint.

It all started with this:

Fresh off the CNC machine:

Body after sanding with the neck after initial cutting:

Matching headstock, with a few other Gecko necks:

Mo' work done, mo' pictures:

The hardware is arriving.  17mm Hipshot A and custom Nordstrand Fat Stacks @ 17mm polepiece spacing.

Neck and body about ready to go to paint.  More waiting......

More waiting......

Oh, boo hoo, cry us a river, at least you can see yours progressing!  When we have to wait, we have to WAIT!

looking good Eric - that top really came to its fullest when the body was cut out  :blob7:

promise us you''ll have sound clips available somewhere when this is all together and it's got a gig/session or more under its belt. I know what the Fat Stack 6's in 18mm spacing on a single-cut sound like ... I'm really curious to hear the 17mm 6's on a 'regular' body style with a W neck

all the best,

R

Yeah, it will be a problem.  See, I'll be walking past the body and neck *every* day, waiting for the paint to cure and the paint shop crew to get to it.  So close, yet so far away!

<Bet that really tugged at your heart strings, eh?>

I noticed to spalt isn't bond... I dig.  :icon_thumright:

Does Warmoth has some more of this unnormal hard spalty Eric? Or you're taking risk and it's the soft one?  :laughing7:

I'm taking a bit of a risk here.  The laminate was more structurally sound than most spalt, but it was still quite soft.  The paint shop is having to base coat it a second time as the spalt soaked in so much of the first coat.

Sanding the body curves took a lot longer than a normal top.  If Warmoth did more, there would need to be additional charges to cover the additional labor.

I'm about Warmoth finding new ways to work with Spalted Maple, perhaps do some kind of Epoxy coat or do acrilizing as Larry of Gallery Hardwoods...

Maybe you guys thinks now is a bad moment, looking at monetary side, as the investment made would get a little late to come back... But, for the other side, as probably the number of orders should fall a little with the crisis, you'll have the time to give it some tries... Kinda think that at times when the "market" is cold is when we should seek new solutions and ways of earn money, because when it gets hot again, people will try to take the "lost time" as fast as they could... ;)

Don't worry, there are plenty of things in planning.  You'll be seeing some soon....!!!
