Okay, this is now the 8th Gecko neck that I've ordered, and the second that I've bought as a custom order (instead of the Showcase).  It's made of Wenge with a fingerboard of dark Pau Ferro.

I ordered this with Pau Ferro because I used to have a fretted Gecko neck with the same woods, and it was beautiful.  Also it was one of the few fingerboard woods that I don't yet own as a fretless bass, so I figured I should give it a try.  :)

I specifically ordered this with a darker fingerboard, because I plan to match this with a lighter-colored body.  I love the texture and the grain of the Pau Ferro.  This board resembles some lighter boards of Macassar Ebony, but still has the very distinctive pores of Pau Ferro.

Good god man, send that neck back.  I hate to break the news, but they've totally mucked up those gold colored frets.  Looks like they've been ground down to ... barely nubs!~

Has that neck been oiled? I'm pretty sure you're a naked neck guy, but it looks more... creamy? than most wenge I see.

Yeah, I gave it a very light rubbing of pure lemon oil.  That's about as much as I prefer having on any neck.  It does make it a bit more shiny or "creamy" at first, but eventually it gets absorbed nicely.

now......what are your plans for the rest of it... :dontknow:

I'm not quite sure yet.  In the short term, I may put it on an existing body.  For later, I've got some ideas for a walnut body with a flame maple top and a "honey burst" finish.  I think that would look nice.  But I'm always open to suggestions!

This neck has now been attached to a Gecko body made of Mahogany with a Makorie top.  Here's a picture I took of it last year:

No better pictures yet, but I'll try to take some shortly.  The Pau Ferro looks nice against the Makorie top!

The previous neck (with the Bloodwood fingerboard) has been moved to a new body:
