Alright guys, as I've developed tendinosis (chronic tendinitis) so bad that it's going to be a while before I can get back to playing at anywhere near a professional level, I'm selling most of my guitar gear in order to fund my career switch to that of a film composer.

I'm selling my most beloved guitar, a USA Custom Shop Schecter C-1. I bought it used for $5100, and I've put a fair amount of upgrades in to it. If you put in the specs on the website's guitar generator, you reach $6,700. Due to this, I feel that a price of $5,000 is easily justified, especially considering I'm going to pay for shipping.

Specs:
One-piece Honduran Mahogany body.
One-piece burled maple top (with a bit of flame and quilt here and there), finished in amber.
Mahogany D-shape heel-less set neck.
Ebony fretboard, with burled maple dot inlays and flamed maple binding. 24 medium-jumbo frets., 12 inch fretboard radius.
Matching maple overlay (i.e. NOT a veneer) on the headstock, brushed steel Sperzel locking tuners.
Nickel (not chrome) Graphtech Resomax NVS Harmonic Bridge, ResoMax NVT tailpiece.
DiMarzio PAF 36th Anniversary Bridge/PAF 36th Anniversary Neck (each with nickel covers). I also have an Air Zone/Air Norton combo sitting around (both black exposed coils) I'd put in there if you'd like.
Master volume with 500k pot, master tone with 250k pot, 3-way pickup selector, and coil tap via mini switch.
Nickel Schaller strap locks.
An official certificate from the Schecter USA Custom Shop.

It also includes a black SKB hardshell case. It's got some stickers on it but whatever.

Please excuse the crappy/huge photos. I'm not entirely sure how to make them smaller. It takes a bit of left-right scrolling to see the whole picture. And yes, I do have leopard print sheets  :headbang:

No trades please, unless we're talking a Mac Pro or a Klein (or other ergo guitar).

Thanks! This is a bit painful but hopefully she can find a good home.

I'm poor. I won't speak to the how many warmoths, or what you are charging, but I will say that is a good looking guitar.  :kewlpics:

Haha sorry. The top on that C1 is super awesome though!

How can you tell? I've seen better pictures of the Loch Ness Monster.

And $5K for a Schecter? What, is it hollow and filled with 3lbs of 100% pure Peruvian flake?

A word of advice, Mr. Smith - your love is worth nothing. Just because you're attached to an instrument doesn't make it valuable. A Schecter C1 normally goes for $600-$800 new, and "improving" instruments typically lowers their value as much or more than the simple fact that it's used. I'm sorry you got ripped off, but it happens. Also, you should be aware that this is a builder's forum, and completed instruments are rarely interesting to this crowd.

Sorry to be a wet blanket, but some things just can't pass without comment.

$5000? Are you serious? I could build 5 killer Warmoths for that price.
+1  :headbang:

I've got a hollow carved-top Tele made of exotic woods with a custom-made bridge that that's one of only 4 or 5 that exist in the world, a custom-wound pickup, a bitchin' setup by me, some custom-made pickup rings and neckplate, and I love it very much. I'm talking love here. It's priceless, unless you consider the $19,000 I want for it, which I think is easily justified, especially considering I'm going to pay for shipping. Any takers? WAIT! Don't answer! There's more! It includes a strap w/ locks, and a free pick! Now how much would you pay?

The deals just never stop at Cagey's Fiddle Emporium! I'm Crazy!

I won't believe you without enormous out of focus pictures.

Well, I'm glad to see you guys actually read my post  :icon_scratch:

First off, I believe a lot of the replies aren't showing up (I'm seeing people quoting some comments, and I can't see the original one). Weird.

Second, I apologized for the low-quality pictures and for how big they were. I've posted these same pictures on other sites and they haven't been blown up like this (they were taken on an iPhone). I have no idea why they're so big.

Third, about the price. If you had actually read what was above the pictures, you would've seen this:

"If you put in the specs on the website's guitar generator, you reach $6,700."

That is why I feel the price of $5,000 is justified, considering how much extra I've put in to this guitar (and considering that it was built for the original owner for slightly more than the website's quote). The fact that I'm paying for shipping is just a side note. Sorry if I was unclear. "Love" has absolutely nothing to do with the price.

Lastly, "Cagey:" Learn to read. This is a USA Custom Shop guitar (it's in the title, dude!), not some production "Diamond Series" crap. The builders from this shop gave rise to guys like Tom Anderson, among others. It's a lesser-known albeit well-respected custom shop and has been so for decades.

C1 refers to the body shape, not the production model. ESP calls their version of this shape the H model (I think). Warmoth's is an Archtop Soloist.

I understand that this is a builders' forum, but the subforum "Gear for Sale or Trade" doesn't differentiate. It's just "gear." And one would think that those drawn to a builders' forum would be the type of people to appreciate an extremely well-made custom built guitar. Apparently not.

I'm really disappointed in you guys. This is generally a great forum. Grow up and let me sell my gear in peace.

All the replies are showing up fine on my end (Win7 Firefox 14.0.1)
The pics aren't 'blown up' that's the actual size. Some boards automatically resize.
The price is still crazy high, even if it was your dream lover.
I'm really disappointed you think you're disappointed about us disappointing you. We have a sense of humor here that is generally lacking from most boards.

Please explain how $2,000 off the original price is crazy high?

Easy. The original price was batshit crazy high. Now, it's just crazy high.

Don't get me wrong - it's a damn nice guitar. Good design, well-appointed and with quality materials and hardware, and I'm sure Schecter did a fine job of assembly and setup - I wouldn't mind owning it myself. But, I suspect you'd have trouble getting even $1500 for it on eBay, and it certainly won't go for that much here. If you parted it out, you might get $500 for the neck/body combo, $75-$100 for the pickup pair, $50-$75 for the tuners, $50 for the bridge/tailpiece, and the rest goes in your parts drawer.

I'm just guessing, of course. But, I've also been doing this for a long time.

Guys, Schecter Custom Shop is different than the Diamond Series import models. They make these by hand in California.

So? While I'm sure that makes them substantially more expensive, it doesn't make them any better or worth any more.

Rolls-Royce has long been a running joke in the Detroit area custom auto shops because they're hand-made and as a result, incredibly expensive. But, underneath the lacquer and leather and poofy appointments like rear window curtains and bud vases in the B-pillars, they're really nothing special at all. Put an outrageous price on something, and you're always going to find somebody who will rationalize it somehow. Mr. Barnum made an observation along those lines, having to do with birth rates...

LOL

The only thing I have to add to this converstion is I too am seeing quoted comments without seeing the original comment.  This is both on my android and on my laptop.
