Two months ago I was fired from a newspaper company for no valid reason. I went for the work rights (I don't know the exact english term sorry) and today I had a meeting with the work rights guy, me and my ex-employer. I wanted my job back, but he didn't want me back so we agreed on a $1000 compensation + a recommendation letter.

Soooo you guys see where I'm going with this right :icon_thumright:

Free fiesta red Strat :headbang:

Sucks about the job, but hooray to a new guitar!  :icon_thumright:

Incidentally, the Commission des normes du travail du Québec (which is where I assume you went) doesn't actually have an official English name. Surprise, surprise... :laughing7:  But elsewhere in Canada, I think they call it the Labour Standards (or Relations) Board.

Looks like it would translate to Commission of Work Standards of Quebec, so I guess Labor Standards Board works.

What kind of recommendation letter can a guy who does not want you back write?

He fired me because he said I wasn't available enough since I started school again, which was completely false because my school schedule matched my work schedule perfectly. So it's nothing personal between me and him, he only had good things to say about my work.

I still felt like I had the rights to defend against what he said, and knowing that he was wrong and that he wouldn't win his cause in front of a commissioner (right word?), he simply offered me money. After all I'm only 19 years old, it's not like I needed that job to survive...

You've never fired a guy because the company was bad? Like he was a good worker and youhad no money to pay him?
